Changing Knobs on a Jaguar
I'm not a fan of the black knobs on my Jaguar and bought a set of tele style knobs to put on there. The guy at the music store I went to said that I needed to undo a screw on the knob to switch them out, but I don't see one on the side of the Jaguar's knobs. I was gonna just pull the knobs off, but I've got a feeling that's gonna mess up the guitar. So... how do I go about changing the knobs?
I would advise against this, it can mess up the pick guard or finish especially if u slip, if they are that hard to pull off then someone prolly glued them on and u will end up destroying them getting them offdrBenway wrote: If they still won't come off, put something (like a knife) under the knob and wobble a bit.

what kind of tele knobs? the barrel kind should just slide on. if they're the black witch hats they should have a set screw. it would be pretty obvious if there's one on any knob.
as for the pickups, take the two screws off the ends, slide the cover off, and then screw the pickups back in. viola.

Well I lol'd.stewart wrote:stick some lubricant on it and make a smooth up and down motion, slowly getting faster and faster and eventually the knob will come off right in your hand.

I stuck a knife under mine and levered them off. I wasn't too bothered about damaging the finish of the METAL PLATE they were mounted to.
Srsly though, the screws are found on similar knobs, but usually on pedals. I have a few Jag-style knobs with screw fittings so I know why the guy thought they might be the same on the Jaguar. But they're not, so he was wrong. The simple fool.
You might also want to try wobbling the pots a bit to see if you've loosened the nut from pulling the knobs off. I did with mine so I just tightened it all up and it was all gravy. Also, I bent the knurled edges out a bit so the new knobs fit onto the shaft tighter (oo-er).
