well i took the neck off tonight and it's stamp is 19NOV71B, the serial is early 72, it was sold as a 73. I haven't had chance to look at the pickups and pots which should reveal more info but the fact the neck says 71 i'm going to say it's a birth year guitar poor pictures follow (I need to get a better camera)




having played it tonight I love the neck, the guitar feels heavier than I expected and it needs a bit of a clean. the electrics sound a little bit scratchy at times and it doesn't like my dimmer lights and my lead with the silent jacks. I need to give the pots a clean as well as a few other bits. it plays brilliantly though and I love the chunkiness of the neck. It feels just right. It sounds sweet though and looking forward to getting to know it better.

avj, I wish i'd picked a CP jazzy sooner, it might of saved me this expense

i really love the neck, it feels like I have something to grasp. it's deeper than I expected and sits in my palm nicely with either playing cowboy chords or punk chords where as most of the time I feel its one or the other. its not one for big bends I think but I know when I get around it I can get the sounds I want. I spent a bit tonight trying out some james brown and if I can hit those chops on it then I can hit most of the things that would make me happy

I really need to sort out the scratchy sounds though, it might need the pots cleaning and I might need to adjust the set up. the crazy thing is that there are 11s on there and to me they feel like 9s. There were 2 shims in the neck which makes the actions really low but expect some q's about set ups and pick ups adjustments

I am really happy for you, Chris. I was pining for a jazzmaster recently but was not able to make it happen. Though by finishing my Musicmaster project I now also have a birth year guitar which is cool having a guitar the same age as yourself. I may end up just making my own jazzmaster down the road.

Hah, nice! I'd say that's close enough

After months of deliberation, I decided a CP would be the best fit for me because I'd like to refinish it and not have to feel the crushing guilt of destroying an extravagant purchase.

I have a film camera but i'll try and sort something out digitally to do it justice. I will be bringing it to the UKfest meet thing though

I have a feeling this might make me be a bridge pickup convert. It sounds so lush and not as trebley as some, really warm. It definitely doesn't like our dimmer lights though, i think I might need to take a look at the grounding as there is a more hum than there was with other single coil guitars.
