Solid State Overdrive? HUH?Z

So I got a Solid State amp.

To be honest, I cannot be bothered with tubes. They seem to be a lot of hassle for a tone boost that right now, I do not need.
All I play is shitty lo-fi sounding pop and punkish stuff anyways I don't need no tone for days.

But, I do want a proper sounding drive, that isen't a hell on earth fuzz.
Basically I want a Overdrive similar to the TS-808.

But I have heard these types of pedals do not mix with SS amps... is this true?

I didn't like how my TS7 sounded with my solid state Marshall, but I don't really like screamers anyway. I will say that pretty much all Boss drive pedals I've tried sound good through solid states. I don't know if it's because they're supposed to be used as stand alone pedals, unlike the screamers (which is why people don't like them with ss, allegedly).

Will a TS808 have enough drive for the stuff you're describing you play?

You have been talking about wanting to build a pedal so do this.... TS808

It works well with my Orange CR20L..... But I think the best OD for a solid state amp is an OCD...

The difference is between the overdrive pedal distorting itself (in its own opamps, which usually sounds good) and the pedal simply providing a clean boost that is intended to overdrive the tubes of a tube amp.

A lot of pedals, like the Tubescreamer, is intended to get a little dirty itself but also provide a huge clean boost which overdrives the amp. The VoodooLabs Sparkle Drive has a clean boost you can mix in to specifically provide this clean boost to the tube amp.

Look for a mild distortion or an overdrive that has a lot of crunch. Something like an OCD might be perfect?

The other guitarist in my band plays through a solid state amp. He usually uses either a Proco Rat 2 or a Boss OD3, of the two of them I'd go with the Rat, but I was surprised by the OD3, because it does actually sound pretty good too.

There's no shame in a solid-state amp, friend -- especially if you're playing gainy stuff.

I always found RAT pedals to work on either valve or solidstate amps; enough note definition while remaining heavyyyyyyyy with the ability to smooth out those spiky upper frequencies often very abundant in solidstates.

I was gonna say I heard SolidState amps are good for drive as well, due to Greenwood using one.

I am also using a mid 80s Princeton Chorus Solid State, I've heard 80s Fenders are quite good for gain-y music anyways so I'm in luck.

I just realized I don't really like the sound of either overdrive or dist. Fuzz sounds great, distortion has its uses but I dunno if I like the needleness, maybe a rat. And over-drive sounds too classic rock-ish, I can get the same solo-power chord AC/DC aggression (for when I feel like a dork alone in my room) with a distortion pedal.

Definitely post-Ruetz, although my modded 'TWAT' did have a HOT mode that pushed it to stock-ish levels of gain. Sounds like the Ruetz mode, though.

I recently sold my trusty ol' Fender Stage 100 (non-DSP), which is a 100-watt solid-state guy that was in the same original Dyna-Touch series as the venerable Princeton 65 and Deluxe 90; I loved that thing with my Big Muff Pi as well.

There's just a certain tightness to a solid-state amp that really seems to pair well with fuzz and other high-gain drive stuff.

I find tube guys brag about tubes more then state guys brag about SS... thats why you hear about tubes more then Solidstate and thats why SS players feel insufficient.
