Rather nice! May I ask how much?
I got it for $550, which I thought was a fair price. The tailpiece, tuners, bridge, and knobs aren't original, and the back of the body and neck were refinished at some point, hence the low price. The important thing is that the "Franz" P90 is original and it sounds fantastic, there are no breaks or repairs, and the neck is great. It's a strange guitar with a voice of its own, and it's a lot of fun to play!

Hahaha

Looks fantastic Rob. But I don't know why you would get rid of a bridge pickup, I use them too much to do so.

+1. Cooterfinger hooked me up with my Fiesta Red Musicmaster body and pickguard.

What is the motivation behind the tangmaster? Do you have a regular Mustang?

*facepalm*

The bridge pickup on the 65RI is fantastic, as is the combination of both pickups.

yes i already have one. its got SJAG-3's in it.

the main motivation was bordom.

also i kept the whole pickup/control assembly together. I only snipped two wires to take it apart. it can be put back to stock in 30 seconds. all the parts on the tangmasterII are new and not related to the 65RI

Hey a new addition to my happy family:

Image

This is my third Mustang-styled bass, but the first Mustang bass. I think it was time.

Too bad neither my Musicmaster nor my Mustang Bass sound as good as my Bronco Bass, which sounds great until it goes out of tune 10 minutes later. :-/

Maybe I should have just invested in a set of upgrade tuners for that bass, but nah, what's the fun in that. Love the 7.25" radius fingerboard with the smaller frets.

It's just an MIJ, stock as far as I can tell. I just need to string it up with pressurewounds and get a better pickup. I really don't like having a $750 Mustang that doesn't sound as good as my $150 Bronco (and I knew it wouldn't, that Bronco has magic in there somewhere), gives me massive guilt.

The neck is amazing, though. It's so thin, it feels so good in your hands, just like you'd expect from a Mustang. I definitely prefer this neck to any other neck I've ever played. Construction wise, it seems a hair better than my "vintage" Musicmaster Bass.

are the bronco basses really that good? Or do you think yours was a diamond in the rough kind of deal?

I have no clue. It was a Badtz Maru Bronco Bass, which had a basswood body instead of the usual agathis. I'd love to get another Bronco Bass for cheap and put the same pickups in it to see if that provides a similar tone.

I did some recordings yesterday:

Mustang Picked
Mustang Fingerstyle

Bronco Picked
Bronco Fingerstyle

I really think the Bronco kills the Mustang currently. In the recordings the Mustang doesn't sound far off, but in person, it's really weird how much more convincing the Bronco tone is. The best example is the second part of the picked demo, the Pixies riff.

I will probably replace the pickup in the Mustang Bass, but consider that a new pickup from Aero will cost about $150 + shipping, which is enough to buy another Bronco Bass. But I love the Mustang Bass so I want it to be good.

When I get new strings for the Mustang, I will make a video where I compare the Musicmaster, Bronco, and Mustang Basses, to settle this once and for all. :D
