Is this Bronco body legit?
ebay lank
Well, I just bought this on ebay because it seemed like a good deal. Questions:
1. Does it look like a legit 60's Fender Bronco body? Any red flags?
2. Are Bronco and Mustang bodies the same shape and size? Can I make this a Mustang?
3. What would you use to fill the Kahler route?
4. Was this a good deal?
Thanks SS!

1. It looks legit to me expect for those bizarre routes. Looks like they enlarged the pickup cavity for a humbucker and not sure what they were trying to do in the tremolo cavity. Floyd Rose maybe. I think it's a bronco for sure. My 1978 Musicmaster has the same pickguard shape and that looks right.rlm2112 wrote:ebay lank

2. All Fender Student models (Mustang, Bronco, Musicmaster, Duo Sonic) share the same bodies after 1965. Broncos didn't exist prior to that. The only exception is that some mustangs had contours and tummy cuts. You can make a Mustang out of it, but you would have to fill the entire bridge cavity and route for the neck pickup. Not to mention the different pickguards that won't line up. Mustang bridge has completely different routes. It would be easier to restore it to a Bronco, but it's up to you. The only hard part on a Bronco is acquiring a bridge.
3. I assume you are refering to the bridge route. You could fill with wood and wood filler or any variety of methods. Then you would have to repaint after that.
4. For a bronco, it's a good deal if you wanted a project guitar. I gave $60 for my Musicmaster body and pickguard and mine was a bro deal. It could be really cool.

looks like a bronco to me.
i'd route the kahler hole into an even square, fill it, and put a duo sonic bridge on it, and then a bronco pickguard on it.
i'd also put a thinner neck on it than a later 70's bronco neck (too thick :\ ), and route out a nice neck pickup hole, and do an richard broncguar.

This post(click here) is giving me some ideas. I'm thinking something like this right now:

Here is a pic of my Musicmaster body when I got it. It was routed for a bridge humbucker. The pickguard holes seem to match your bronco and you can see what a duo sonic mounting looks like.

A Bronco pickguard is similiar but has a bridge pickup instead of a Neck pickup.

Thanks for the comparison.taylornutt wrote:Here is a pic of my Musicmaster body when I got it. It was routed for a bridge humbucker. The pickguard holes seem to match your bronco and you can see what a duo sonic mounting looks like.
Assuming that the paint is usable as is, I think I'm gonna do this to start.

Unfortunately Bronco bridges are hard to come by and I have never seen on under $200. I am still kicking myself for not picking up that $200 Bronco beater on CL.

nah, you need a full-on strat style route for those. they have springs that go around the back and everything. a kahler is just front mounted.cur wrote:Man, you got the route so go ahead and Pimp it out. Make it work for. You know you want.
