Since I'm cutting an entirely new pickguard for my Nu-Sonic and it will be wired differently, what are my options? I'm looking to keep the single volume and tone controls, but replace the 5-way strat-style switch that selects between the three existing pickups with a 5-way rotary, allowing me to split the coils of the two humbuckers that I'll be mounting.
Buuuut.. I'm not sure. I'm thinking it might be better to just stick two small 3-way on/off/split coil switches for the humbuckers as that might be simpler though not as tidy looking.
Anyway, my other question is what sort of cap to use on the tone control. I don't often use it anyway on any guitar. I set it on full and never really like the way it tends to just muffle things if it's ever moved from that point. So what can I do to make the tone control more interesting? Should I use a 500k pot, a Black Ice cap, an orange drop? Help me out, I'm a massive noob at this.
Give me ideas for new wiring set-up.

I'd go 500K for buckers. 1meg if you want more jangle but it can become unpalletable. A compromise is to get a no-load pot for the tone. Just gives you a little extra high end and jangle when you need it. The higher the output of the pickup the more you might see the benefit.
I like the way the tone rolls off with a 0.022 cap. I don't think it makes an ounce of difference which brand cap you get. I use orange drops because they're cheap, look cool and are chunky enough to man handle with my cack hands.
As for coil splits, I don't think it's worth it. An out of phase switch might be handy though.

Found this diagram. It has out of phase switching. There are a few others, too. I have all sorts of grand designs going on in my head, like two 5-way rotary switches and a little switch to flick between the two circuits and stuff, but I'll probably just go with this. And then only ever use either the bridge in isolation or both at once and ignore the other settings, lalz.
