musikding kits

hiya guys as i have mentioned im really new to all this and my only real knowledge on pedal buidling is which way round to hold the soldering iron

on somebodies advice off here im gonna try a musikding kit.

any pointers?

my main concern is the instructions side of things? is it a step by step setup or is iot just "heres the stuff now you throw it together" jobbie

ive decided to go for the fuzz factroy kit coz someone mentioned it was pretty easy

Nope. The fuzz factory has 1) loads of pots to wire incorrectly 2) transistors to burn/orientate wrongly. It's a shit-sounding pedal anyway, so you'll have no idea if you've even built it correctly.

Do an IC-based pedal first like a Distortion+ or a Tubescreamer.

They do a lovely Rangemaster kit, you can't go far wrong (ie. I made it).

I tried it and fucked it up twice, if you're patient you'll be fine, if you're me, you'll get frustrated and it'll end up gathering dust under a table.

The instructions aren't the greatest, they're all up on the website so just have a nose.

Well, from what I remember you just use the files on their site.

It looks pretty straightforward to me:

Perhaps mount the pots in some card if you don't want to chuck them straight in the box, or prepare to tangle with some wiring.
The transistors are socketed too, so you shouldn't be able to burn em.
Make sure your soldering iron is hot enough so the solder flows easily and you can get in and out quickly. Don't hold the soldering iron on components for any length of time.

i did the fuzz face kit with no issue, watch a few how to solder vids on utube and you should be set. colour print the instructions so they are easy to reference as well. the only other ball ache for your first time is drilling the boxes

I know it's a different company but I ordered a true bypass looper kit from General Guitar Gadgets, I thought it would come with instructions but all it had was a photo of what it should look like and a circuit diagram. I built it to how I thought it should go together from the info they included with the kit and it didn't work. That was the end of my pedal building career, the easiest pedal to build ever and I could even make it work. Hope you are more successful.

you'll be fine, I have not done kits thru them but from other companies when I started building pedals.... take your time, socket the trannies, use multiple wire colors and when ur wiring it all up look at it and plan ahead how u want to run all the wires in the box to run....

It is a very easy build.... the only semi issue is all the pots, for neatness sake after you have the wires soldered to the pot twist/braid them together then solder them to the board...

and since it is your first build I HIGHLY RECOMMEND USING A LARGER ENCLOSURE!!! Especially with 5 pots....

and if you are not experienced in soldering PRACTICE FIRST....
