Yes, I know that site, but in the "VU era" section it only says VOX Tone Bender fuzz in effects. Is that the only one (and then combined with the listed amps) that creates the sound? And then which VOX Tone Bender? (MK?)

The Vox Super Beatle amp is cited in various places for Lou Reed for certain VU period. The Super Beatle was an early solid state amp made by Vox's USA branch, Thomas Organ. The Super Beatle was an innovative model which included many in- built effects, including: Distortion (actually a fuzz effect), repeat percussion (a type of tremolo), and a mid-range boost.

If VU used and were endorsed by Vox, they presumably woudl also have access to Vox Tone Benders and their plug-in treble boosters and distortion.

I've read too - in a biography - that they lost a lot of their equipment before an album recording session.

Here's a video demo of the Super Beatle amp:

Sterling said that they used the boxes that plugged into the guitars. Vox made a Distortion Booster, Treble Booster, and a Repeat Percussion (sort of like a square wave tremelo ie. on/off) that plugged into guitars, between the cable and the guitar.

The Dan Armstrong stuff plugged in too... I know its not Vox, but I doubt they stuck to just Vox stuff.
