Their guitar sounds like a cross between Link Wray and Surf. I'd like to see a time line from rockabilly to instrumental to surf. I don't know where this fits. I really like this, might have to go buy it.

Random stream-of-conciousess Dave history brought to you by tiredness:

The Shadows, and specifically guitarist Hank Marvin, were pretty much THE major guitar influence in the UK at one point in time - Hank was the first to get a Strat into the country too I believe. I'm guessing they're not so well known elsewhere in the world but non-UK guitarists influenced by Hank include Neil Young, Santana, and Frank Zappa (aaaand Chris Issac if that counts) .. and in the UK George Harrison, David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, Gary Moore, Ritchie Blackmore, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page amongst many many others.

As my dad said it was only when the Beatles arrived that the Shadows kind of thing fell out of favour in the UK. My dad was in a Shadows influenced band and he said interest dropped literally overnight.

Here's a pic of my dad (middle) playing a Burns split sonic guitar in The Strangers (no doubt banging out the lead to The Shadows 'Apache')
