First Build: jaguar!

Post by ykyk69 »

Finally got my parts from warmoth, an alder jaguar body weighing 4lbs 8oz, and my maple rosewood neck with cream dots and a nice chunky fatback contour(it feels even bigger than my '78 bronco neck!). I have almost all the other parts except electronics/pickups/wiring and screws.

the body with around 7 coats of Tru oil and buffed with #0000 steel wool, which was really nice to work with and super easy to get nice results on a first time finish

and the brown shell pickguard blank from warmoth i'll be cutting a my pickguard out of as i dont want to do the chrome platesImage

ill post again soon when more progress is made :D

has anybody on here tried out or heard things about tonerider pickups? just discovered them and reviews ive been reading are pretty good and they're cheap(78$ for a pair of humbuckers or p-90's)

i like that black and white witch hat against the pickguard, but i'm not sure how they'd look sitting on the chrome jag control plate.

He don't want the chrome. Thought both the black types. Maybe white stripe one best.

i might do the chrome control plate, i ordered one yesterday but might end up just using it to trace for a template. I swiped those big reverb and speed knobs off of a broken organ and id have to get some weird pots to get them to fit on or i might try drilling them out or something, maybe file the side of solid shaft pots. probably to much of a hassle but they are so preeeetty

if i happened to find me nice set o them bronco knobs for free, they would be the #1 choice for sure, but you see i don't ave much extra money and i have all these nice sets of knobs i salvaged so ima use one of them.

Also i ended up buying AVRI jag pickups as they were under 80 buxxx

cut the pickguard today. rough cut it on a band saw then used files and sand paper to smooth and (kind of) bevel the edges.
