sampler pedal

Post by baloneysandwich »

just started playing guitar in a guitar/drum two-piece. playing solos is kind of awkward since there is no one to keep the chords changing. i figured a sampler pedal would be a cool way to circumvent this problem and my shitty chops:
i want to throw in some quick blasts of short sweet prerecorded noise in lieu of traditional solos. what's a good, reasonably priced, sampler pedal? i prefer something i can buy used and cheap on the bay. it would have to be able to store (multiple) phrases even when powered off. those phrases would have to be able to be triggered by foot. i think i can live without being able to change between samples with my feet, but that kind of thing wouldn't be bad... thanks in advance!

I don't know if you're going to find those features in reasonably priced. Check out the Boss RC-2 to start, it'll give you lots of loop time. Delay/loopers like the Akai Headrush and the Line 6 DL4 are going to have much shorter loop times.

I've got an RC-2 and it will do exactly what you need. Can add an external footswitch for tap tempo, or double footswitch for switching samples too if you want. They've just released the RC-3 so the 2 might get a bit cheaper.

I have the RC-2 and its pretty good. Judging from reviews its supposed to be better than the jamman but i havent used it so cant tell.
The only annoying thing about the RC-2 is the electronic hiss that you get, havent managed to get rid of it not matter what

Mine used to be noisy, but then I found it was the power supply. Has been totally silent since I either used its own power supply or in a daisy chain with a virtual battery.

Hmm, I'll have to experiment tomorrow, but I think I have tried to power it up with a boss supply as well as 1-spot too to no avail. maybe it has to do with the other pedals on the board (i suspect it doesnt like the holy grail+ and freeze)

Get a laptop and set up prerecorded tracks to a click - drummer plays to click and everything is sequenced perfect. By the time you spend a few hundred dollars on pedals you could have a more versatile system via computer technology.
