I like the concept of someone putting together guitars from all kinds of mismatches, giving them a professional set up, and selling at REASONABLE honest prices but this guy is a joke. That 'relic' job.... jesus. That decal... I remember someone posted one where he was selling a guitar with a body and neck scale length that would never have intonated properly..

There's some chud on ebay in the UK who seems to unload a relic'd CV Squier every month or so I was looking. They sell under the usual used price so don't know if it's a hobby. Anyway, nice idea but don't ding the back of the fucking neck!

thats a MojoTone Dijion cap....there $1.25 from MojoTone.... its a good cap for a good price, they are cheaper than a Orange Drop..... I got them in my P90 SG....

What makes them a good cap? In what way is it better than a regular cap from a company that makes high quality, consistent caps like Panasonic or Wima but costs around 1/3 of that to buy individually. Do you think you can hear a difference in your guitar tone if you were to A/B?

Yeah, I'm interested to find out how people justify this as well.
Capacitance of 022 UF @ 400v applied to the same circuit should sound the same no matter who made the part, no?

The only thing I can think of is that there might be a teeny, tiny bit of drift between the components' performance values, possibly based on different calculation methods on the part of the manufacturers but how big a difference could that possibly make and wouldn't that make them fundamentally different parts, anyway?

I can hear a difference with good caps compared to cheap "greenies or brownies" the greenies and brownies cut more high end out and have a duller sound, a good cap such as Dijions or Orange drops seem to leave more clarity intact.... this is why greenies are popular in pedals, they smooth out the shrill highs in a BOOSTED circuit

aka...u know when u roll the tone down and once u hit 8ish it just becomes duller and less defined... well with good caps I find that dullness does not hit until about 2 or 3... it does make the tone darker as it should but leave the clarity intact until u get to 2 or 3 compared to 8.... this is my experience and this is taking into account that I use the same pots

whether anyone beleives me or not is fine cuz I know there is alot of dis-belief on this subject but seriously its only like a couple bux

Edit: the other thing I recommend more than the "good" tone caps is putting vol mods on all ur guitars if u use the vol knob alot..... just put a 220K resistor and a 470pf cap in parellel on the open ungrounded lugs of the vol pot..... makes the clean up more even and leaves highs intact as u roll the vol down.... again this is like $.50 of parts

right you can hear the difference between the mojotone and a greenie, but what james is asking is can you hear the difference between the mojotone and something like a WIMA or panasonic cap? the mojotone actually looks like it's made by mallory. maybe it's a special run made to specified tolerances. regular mallory caps sound fantastic though, I can not think of anything they need to do better.

Yep never heard of them.... I use Orange Drops or Mojotone/Mallory in guitars and Tompay Box or Panisonic in pedals

I have noticed a nice difference between the Brownies and Orange Drops in guitars thou.... My Blacktop Jazzy had a Brownie stock and the Orange Drop made a nice difference, especially in the tone knob usability...

With the Orange Drops I feel it comes down to what series you use... I think the 715 or 716 series are the good ones and the 225 are the cheap so so ones...

seems to be the higher the voltage the smoother the tone
