Companion to what?

Post by rps-10 »

Got one of Tim's Fredric Effects Unpleasant Companion (Shin-Ei FY-2 Companion Fuzz) off ebay the other day.

Had time to test it out today, bit of a one trick pony but seems to work well with other pedals. It's really good in front of the fOXX Tone Machine clone I have when the TM's octave is and it kind of works ok in front of a wah but pretty crap after a wah.

When just wigging out on its own it seems to have some sort of percussive thing going on, sounds like it is clipping to a rhythm of its own lol.

Found using it over on the "warmer" side about 2 o'clock gave a very honky tone.. much like some Lenny Kravitz type stuff.

Nicely made too 8)

One of mine too - only traded away this morning for that Univox body, and already I'm mourning its loss. Very pretty, ugly sounding pedal.

It's also the smallest pedal I've ever owned..

Have to admit first thing I did with it, was not plug a guitar into it... it was take it apart to have a nose.

Weird, I was just researching the FY-2 as I found out William Reid used it in JMC, neat.

Quite a few "named" players have used one.. good for name dropping on ebay auctions.

just want a Fredric: grumbly wolf, scrambled brians and an Atomic clock now :?
