iRig vs Peavey AmpKit
Hey guys, anyone had direct experience with both of these iDevice guitar input doohickeys?
I've had the free Amplitube app for ages (on my old borrowed Touch 3G, and now my own new Touch 4G) and figured I'd finally put it to use by dropping a bit of coin on an interface.
I know the Peavey is powered to eliminate crosstalk and general interference-based nastiness; is the iRig noisy in comparison?

i find my irig/amplitude can get noisy depending on what else is on in the room at the same time. at the moment I'm limited to daytime playing as all the dimmers in our house cause havoc with it, which defeats the purpose for me now as I bought it for practicing in the evening. I asked their support if they could help and they said maybe the next release might have a patch to sort it out as test showed it wasn't the rig itself.

Cheers guys, I kinda wish that video actually had some genuine content rather than piss-poor camera audio filmed from a distance.
I may just go for the Peavey and hope for the best; it's only a few quid more expensive than the iRig, and I'll mainly be using it for HEAVY ROCK DISTORTION so wouldn't wanna take my chances with a passive interface if they're that susceptible to interference.

iRig runs great on iPad and no noise issues except for simulated amp noise. I was using the full version Amplitube on iPad with iRig. Played well with my pedalboard as well. No experience with Peavey yet. I hope to get an iPad 2 and the Fender Amplitube to test in the near future.

Have you downloaded grageband on your iPad yet and tried iRig? I have iRig and Amplitude full (+Fender) on my iPhone but am thinking of getting an iPad and think I would go with Garageband because of the ability to use so many other sounds for recording (e.g. make your own drums!) and lopping, etc. with the recorder. On my Mac, I do find the Line 6 amp/pedals models (using Toneport UX1) superior to Garageband but GB on the iPad looks incredibly useful. However, when I tried iRig on my mac there was quite a bit of feedback unless I turned the volume down pretty low.taylornutt wrote:iRig runs great on iPad and no noise issues except for simulated amp noise. As I went into in another thread, I was sent the Peavey because the irig was out of stock, I went back and forth about sending in back and asking for what I'd ordered but in the end, as much out of laziness than anything, stuck with the Peavey. It worked fine not a problem, but recently died on me, I've only had it a 3 or 4 months and didn't use it heavily.
This may will be an isolated case and doesn't really tell you anything, but when i get round the replacing it I'll definitely go for the irig. I'm pretty sure I saw one in Mapplin the other day which a bonus over internet ordering.

I borrowed the iPad from a family member, so I don't have it right now. I do plan to get it once I get it back or get my own.fostewi wrote:Have you downloaded grageband on your iPad yet and tried iRig?
