Love the two faced aspect... great resolution & something different !!!

I spent 2 hours wet sanding and buffing it out on Sunday. I wet sanded it using water, started at 320, didn't have any 400, skipped to 600, 800, 1000, 1200 & 1500. Used all 3 grade StewMac rubbing compound and finished it off with swirl remover. Wiped it down with a clean cloth and.....

It looks amazing!

Gawd, somebody buy this thing quick from me. I've got a JS neck, JB & everything to finish it minus a tremolo. I don't wanna route the guitar, but if someone doesn't take it off my hand... I'm gonna do horrible things to it. I've had this guitar for a year and have had NO EMOTIONAL CONNECTION with it at all... now I feel like it's MINE!

On a side note, I sold my Samick Les Paul Silverburst to some guy in Idaho... gonna ship it to him. But I'm having really bad & horrible gut feeling about getting rid of it. It's my best sounding guitar, but it's also the one that I feel least attached to for some odd reason (maybe cause it don't say "Gibson" on the headstock). He's giving me $180, I dunno... just don't think I could get that great of a guitar for $180 ever again.... I may back out. I wonder if I'm just a fucking guitar hoarder. I hate myself, I feel I'm becoming a "guitar collector"... and they are all assholes.

Will post pictures after work tomorrow.

I definitely want to buy this from you, but I am still trying to come up with funding. My birthday is next week. Maybe I will come into some cash. I have to wait and see.

The late 70's mustangs are indeed a slightly different shape than the 64/66/69's etc, its in the upper horn.

Why they changed it I have no idea, maybe because they are idiots!

Anyways, good job making it a mustang again!

BTW, that 66 body looks pretty accurate to me, I own a 66 and it looks right from such a small photo.

I think they changed it possibly due to belly contour? Also the tremolo route is tapered and oblong... neck pocket is shaped like a upside down "m". You see that neck pocket alot on the Mexican guitars... my toronado, tele & duo sonic.

Taylor, I'll let you have it for $100 plus actual shipping if you really want it. I gotta get more pictures tonight, just been busy. I paid $5o for it, but have all together got $180 in it... used good quality ReRanch paint on it.

The contours were on the original 64 style body for years before the upper horn changed.

I did not know that. Thought contours came out in the late 60 with... compstangs. My 66 was a slab body, so I just assumed everything before was too.

Yeah they (mustang contours) did come out in the late 60's but the body was still the 64 shape, not the 70's shape like your refin one.
The shape changed in the 70's.

Two questions: 1) I looked at the pictures again, and am I right that this body has both a tummy cut and the arm contour? I thought I saw both. I want to use this guitar body as a model so I can do the tummy cut and contours on my Ash Mustang project and then build it back up to a full Mustang guitar. 2) Are the metal grounding plates still in the body? I saw them in the first picture, but was not sure if you left them in.

It's funny you used Reranch because I live right down the road from him and I used it on my Tele guitar project.

not trying to sound prickish, but is the message you sent him in your pm outbox or sent folder? if it's in the outbox, he hasn't. if it's in the sent folder, he has, and either didn't notice it, or hasn't had an opportunity to respond.

It left the outbox. I was under the impression he needed to move the body fast and just wanted to make sure he got the message. I am sure he will respond when he gets a chance.

I didn't want you to do something you would regret :) Does JS Neck = jagstang neck?

Incredible job, looks completely natural like that was the intended finish.
