How are the two particularly similar looking? Unless you knew of the common heritage, you wouldn't think these were related guitars.

I'm more interested in a double humbucker Mustang as a cheap modding platform (if it indeed turns out to be one) than something I would enjoy stock. I thought I made that clear.

In any case, Mustangs don't have any major flaws IMO because the switching is something that works very well and because you can actually set one up with 9s, whereas you can't really do that with Jags with the stock bridge. It has quirks, and therefore you can have legitimate gripes with it, but they're not flaws. I have said many times before that I find Strats to be crappy, but I don't think that the Strat has flaws, it's just not something I like. I know the difference.

I was willing to settle for a Duo Sonic/ Mustang hybrid project but this pic definitely ruins it for me. While I don't think the Duo Sonic is ugly, the Mustang is so much better, much sexier with that waist. I messed around with the Duo Sonic at Guitar Center, it wasn't set up, the action was a mile high, most likely it was some minor neck adjustment needed. But it mainly came down to price, it shouldn't cost much more than an Affinity Tele or Strat. Definitely not more than the Squier Jazzmaster/ Jaguar duo. I'd do an abortion of a Mustang on the Duo Sonic if it was 200 or less. I don't give a crap about the switching because I most likely couldn't tell the difference anyway; position 1, crappy, Position 2 slightly more crappy, ad nauseum. The crappy stops with me. I suck, not the switches.

The bass is like three years old. The pickguard will fade with time. The Olympic white is def not yellow in person.

I like the whole white on white thing. Fender does it pretty often, with their Strats and the MG73.

I know a lot of people don't like that yellowish color but I fucking love that yellowed clear coat with a tort guard. All time favorite combo.

word. nic's is a little more yellow than I like . . . but it still looks damn good with that tort.

Is that vintage? If so, standard notation incites a maximum boner rating of 99.91% for natural with white/parchment.

oh dear, sorry bout that. Minor infraction of -10 to -12% for stripped finish, but a slight redemption of +3 to +6 for competiton remnants. Still a fine piece.

It's a nice piece indeed. But I'll have to set it back another 3.245% for the frets which are pretty damn worn out.

We're like figure skating judges now, deductions and such.

Anyway I think all non-sunburst Mustangs, guitar or bass, are good looking. Even the sunburst ones aren't bad, it's just not my taste. It's just that I nitpick because I can. The ugliest Mustang in the world is still kinda nice.
