gosh, now i can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not, but no, of course i'm not.

i'm genuinely asking if you're actually surprised that the OP was enough to bring into question the rules of this fair establishment.

is it that surprising? i wasn't startled in the least bit, as we (as a collective, not pointing fingers) typically jump the gun whether it's called for or not.

backseat moddnig, contests of pissery, and the like.

Suppose someone with 2,000 posts had made a thread about their pedal site then everyone would be fighting to congratulate them. Probably even the same for someone with 50 or 100 posts.

'Hi guys, check out this site/blog I run that's relevant to your interests' isn't really spam. If the guy sticks around for no reason other than promotion then it could obviously go that way but based on the opening post it's very harsh to make that judgement.
