Shortscales in Durant, OK

Post by taylornutt »

I am here at the casino in Durant , OK for a gettaway with my wife and I decided to check out the local guitar shop.

The only guitar of interest was Pre-CBS 1964 Duo-Sonic just like the one below. The first thing I noticed was it had 21 frets and 22.7 22.5 scale. The salesman said it was his guitar and that is was a demo of their work. When I mentioned the scale, he said it was 24" scale despite only having 21 frets. I have a 24" Musicmaster and there is no way it was 24" scale. I think this guy doesn't understand what he has.

Yeah, not only that, it looks really short.

He should just take a ruler and measure it.

I wasn't going to argue with the guy. It was his pre-CBS guitar and I told him I have 24" scale musicmaster, but that didn't seem to change his mind. You would think someone who works in a guitar shop would know more about his own guitar. If I had a tape measure, I would have pulled it out. Most of the guitars were cheap squiers and odd ball stuff.

It's not 22.7", you're thinking of the Mexican Squier Duo-sonic from the 90s. It's 22.5"

You're right. I was thinking of my baby Taylor which I believe is 22.75".

Doesn't look like he's a big fan of intonation adjustment either...

That's a pic off the web, not the exact guitar. but I agree with what you are saying about the picture.

I'm guessing the owner looked at the 3 saddle bridge and thought 'fuck this, I'll just leave it as is'.
