My ORM-1 just arrived today, ebay purchase.

Post by kevlar »

Hey guys. So the ORM-1 arrived today, and it's pretty fooking sweet. I've been wanting one of these since they came out. Considering the deal I got on it (£130) in mint condition, and the black colour is no longer in production, I'm over the moon.

The guitar itself is tiny. My dad thought it was a kids guitar when I pulled it out of the box, but this suits me just fine. I'm a humble 5 foot 7 and my jag simply dwarfs me, so this is very much welcome. Omar Rodriguez Lopez must be tiny.

The clean sound is a lovely spanky almost singlecoil sound. Lovely, can't fault it. A few people have said the distorted tones are a bit brittle, but while this is true to a certain extent it is nothing over the top. A tone knob would have sorted this out but of course the guitar has a single volume knob. Saying this, I still really like the distorted tone, it's raw and really punchy and that's what i'm after.

Only slight downside is the guitar is very headstock heavy, and the guitar tends to slide down if you let go of the neck. Again, this is nothing major. Solution = sling it around your neck and salsa dance like Omar.

The neck is very wide fretboard wise but very shallow. This is a new type of neck for me and will take a little getting used to, but I'm already starting to like it. There's loads of room for crazy bends etc. I don't want all of my guitars to be the exact same to play anyway.

I've got to say, you get a lot of guitar for the 300 quid asking price, and for the money I paid, I'm simply over the moon with it. Sorry about the poor quality of the pictures. I'll take better ones tomorrow if anyone is interested. Cheers!

I had a Jet King and that thing was pretty heavy. How is this one?

Could you concentric knob this thing out to have a tone knob? It's something that's definitely helped tame my Hello Kittycasters.

Anyway, looks nice and lots of fun.

there is more than enough room in the routes to drill a hole in the pickguard and add a tone knobs.

The thing weighs an absolute ton!! It's about the same as my CIJ Jag. My dad thinks the ORM is actually heavier, but i'm not sure. I don't play Les Pauls or anything, so this guitar seems heavy to me, especially when in comparison to its tiny size.

To be honest, I don't see the need to modify anything yet, all I need to do is back off the high very slightly end on the distortion pedals and it sounds fab to me. It's just a very raw, ballsy sound.

The white model is proper sexy too, but my Jag is white and I fancied a little change. Also thought it would have less of the 'Omar's signature guitar' connection too, even though I love the Peurto Rican genius.

Cheers for the link!

Nice guitar - glad you are liking it. I think it's a great guitar for the money - especially what you paid for it!
Am sure you will have seen in the other thread that I put a strap button on the upper horn and it really does make the guitar feel a lot more balanced and comfortable. I recommend you do it!

So it seems that it's basically the same as a Jet King but slightly smaller.

I can say that that thing wasn't much lighter than an LP Studio. Fun to play, though.

I had a JTK-2 and it was a great axe... was as heavy as my LP Standard...... handed it down to my cousin for his 16th birthday..... I miss it sometimes.... but then I pick up my Jazzzmaster and forget about it

ah shame, that one looked sexy. I wish his sig had been more like the Ibanez he had at the end of ATDI and the start of TMV though.
