81 Fender Bullet Neck

Post by Stuart »

With the risk of shooting my self in the foot....

There is this 81 Bullet body on ebay for cheap (cheap because the finish is a horror show and body the cool bridge/guard and the body have been mauled for a humbucker). In the listing it is stated that the neck was used for another project. So should I win it I'm thinking about offering the lister £X for it. The question is what should X be?

I know it is just a tele neck but I really like these guitars and especially if the Bullet decal is still on the head stock is is worth trying to keep body and neck together. You can get a good replacement tele neck for around £100 to £170, is somewhere in there fair?

I'd been looking on eBay for MIM necks for some time, often seeing them go for £120ish. I'd say the region you're after is probably right. Worth seeing what he says anyway.

The problem in the UK is that proper Fender necks on UK eBay are like hen's teeth compared to our friends across the pond. You can also get decent Axesrus necks for £90 or Mighty Mite necks £75. Tele style, maple gloss finish, 7.25" radius just like the bullet had. Just requires drilling.

Yeah I'll probably do that. Should I win the auction. I mean the guy may very well say "no way I love the neck where it is" or not want the bother of doing a neck change. I think it is worth a try to keep the body and neck together.

Yep, deal with BobAC; the neck's the best bit. His was unbutchered, too.

Cheers, I'll send a PM,

It's an '82 and therefore a strat shape, but with the same neck, am I right? I mean I know it is the same neck but were all the bullets in 1982 strat shape?

Cheers Stewart,

Just sent him a PM, waiting and seeing now. Looks pretty cool in the photo was that when you had it? Word on the inter nets is they might be mustang pickups, any good?... I just love the shape of the tele-ish '81ers.

Why do I always like guitars that have the visual aesthetic of aged 70's white kitchenware and white-goods?

I can't remember ever examining the pickups closely but they certainly looked mustang-ish. Those guitars have a very particular sound, clangy metallic and brash. I loved it, i just didn't play it much as, i'm ashamed to say, my mustang was nicer looking.

Won the body for 40 quid, which I though was pretty good. No luck in sourcing a neck/full guitar from Mr Arsecake. Sent the seller a message regarding his. Hopefully I'll get lucky, if not I'll bung a tele neck on it.

The seller got back to me.. Said the guitar with the bullet neck on was stolen outside a gig..So I'm on the hunt! I'll post a want to buy in the classifieds just in case anyone here has a neck they are trying to shift and then neck stop project thread when I get to stripping and painting.

yeah, just get a tele neck for it, and save yourself the headache. if you were to spend a bunch of time and (probably more money) tracking down a bullet neck, you could've done bought a tele neck and been rocking that ol' bag.

There's a nice Bullet on ebay now going for £240 last time I checked.

Can't find the Bullet body though. Did you win it?

See if you can find an Allparts tele neck - they're very good. Don't waste your time trying to find a Bullet neck now - they get parted out and sold for builds, as they were the same necks as were on US teles at the time.

Yeah, I'm just on the hunt for a decent tele neck for the right price. The plan has always been to stick a tele neck on it, failing getting the original. I'm on my way over to classified just to check if anybody here is wanting to shift one. Well actually I'm on my way to bed so I'll post that up later.
