hiya guys this is probably THE most ridiculous question and probably something you're all aware of but ive recently started using my big muff (think its the pi one, big silver box????) and (isolated) i get a great tone from it which i love but the second i kick it in with the band the sound just seems to disapear in the mix.
im guessing its to do with the "eq properties" of the pedal but is there anything i can do to solve it?
i got it coz it was pretty cheap and i dont have the funds to go outand buy a boutique fuzz pedal and also i really do love the sounds i get from it?
cheers guys
my big muff disapears!

Classic Muff Dive.
I would bypass the tone stack. You can also mod the tone stack in the circuit to bring in more mids.
I don't remember exactly where to cut and replace and stuff, but this looks like a good link...

You could also spend tons of money on handmade boutique pedals, sans muff dive.

crackin, cheers for the link
i wanna look at doing the mid control mod. is this something that would be "doable" considering im an absolute novice. i understand just replacing something but "wiring something in series" may be out of my abilities at the mo
i just like the idea of having control over the mid as opposed to just isolating the issue

you can also put in an AMZ Presence Control to adjust the mids or just put am EQ pedel after it
also if ur thinking of having the tone stack changed check out the Duncan Tone Stack Calculator to see what changes in values will do to the mids, with this you could actually have 2-3 tone stacks in the pedal and have them switchable per a switch....
the easiest mod is to find the .0039 or .0047 cap in the tone stack (depending on the muff version) and wire two of these caps in parallel and will give u mostly flat mids...
parallel meaning where the one is u replace it with two, not one cap into the other if that makes sense....

Yeah, maybe, but when mids are removed, it's pretty tough to put them back in. Imagine rolling your tone control off, recording, and then boosting the treble on the recording to get more highs.SGJarrod wrote:you can also put in an AMZ Presence Control to adjust the mids or just put am EQ pedel after it

are u referring to the AMZ or EQ part of this statement? I can see this being tru with the eq pedal, but the AMZ Presence control works rather wellaen wrote:Yeah, maybe, but when mids are removed, it's pretty tough to put them back in.
