I've got an epiphone Riviera that I bought back when they started making them again in the 90's and it's an excellent guitar. but the new (mic) ones are shite...endsjustifymeans wrote:Fran wrote: Taking into consideration what Dan has said; it is appalling to assume Gibson would use an old name that meant affordable quality to sell a range of substandard crap.
Epiphone?
I disagree. I've played more than a few SG specials and special fadeds and all but maybe a handful of them have had horrendous fret jobs, felt like crap, and the faded finishes just look really bad to me, and I don't like the way they sound with the stock pickups either. I've had one friend swap the pickups in them and his sounded decent, but by then he paid as much as I did for my used SG standard which is worlds better in my opinion. If I was in the market for a sub $800 SG I would get an Epiphone G400 and do a pickup swap. They feel great, and once you swap the pickups they sound great too.othomas2 wrote:The faded aint crappy, and cut above anything with Epiphone on the headstock guaranteed, with or without new pickups !!!

But really don't know why, and if I think about it too hard I start to dislike them more and more. Maybe better colors will help?
Actually I just think they need to bring back the MM double cut body.
