Les Kapow!skis (My little solo indie pop project)

Post by honeyiscool »

I haven't recorded anything in ages because I decided I need to get better equipment so I can actually hear what I was making because I wasn't happy with my mixes, also I needed to get better at singing and guitar and bass (pretty much everything but piano) so it didn't take like 5 hours to make a decent sounding guitar track.

But here are some of my old sketches, full of the beautiful sounds of the Bronco Bass, RI Mustang, and GarageBand drums.

1. When You Smile
2. Girl Next Door
3. Folks Like Us

I only write three word titles.

Dude. When you smile is too adorable. I enjoy it alot.

You are really good at arranging pop songs, I am quite jealous. Do you have any actual training in musical theory?

When you Smile is very good. The overdriven guitar part at the end is really amazing. You have a good knack at harmonies and melodies.
Girl Next Door has an early Weezer vibe. It is good fun.
And Folk Like Us, has that really cool shoegazey chorus. I like the tone on that, and it should not work there, but it does. Good work.

How do you make Garageband Drums sound soo good. I am awful at using them.

I've never actually read a music theory book or taken a class on it but I think I have a pretty good grasp of theory and structure because I've played piano (classical & jazz) for 20 years and I'm lucky enough to have absolute pitch. So I just read or listen to music and, you know, stuff like Avril Lavigne or Kelly Clarkson that I'm not really supposed to like, I like listening to all that bubblegum stuff. My goal is to be like a dude version of Rose Melberg. I didn't start playing guitar or attempt singing until about 4 years ago, so I always feel like I should just be patient and try to get good at those things because I know all it takes is practice. But it's still frustrating, of course.

As for GarageBand drums, I tend to always layer them so that I usually have two concurrent drum tracks. They usually sound better that way.

Oh, and most importantly, thank you for your kind words. I should e-blush.

Shit man. Yeah the 20 years of piano definitly show through in your actual musical ability. If you ever want to bounce ideas off of someone or make a silly duet hit me up.
Probably not as good at guitar as you, have bad pitch, but sing my heart out with all my ability.
I'd love to collaborate with someone, especially if they wanna make bubblegum pop.

Keep on making music. You have a fan
