I have a pedal idea and wanted to run it by you to see if you think it's even possible. I am a big fan of the White Stripes, especially the solo tone Jack gets in the song Ball and Biscuit. I think Jack is using a combination of a NYC Big Muff and a Digitech Whammy pedal set 2 octaves up. You can see it at 3:45 in the video. What I would like would be a Muff that has a separate footswitch to kick in an octave circuit to simulate what the Digitech is doing to the Muff when Jack is soloing. If possible, I would rather use a Rams Head muff instead of the NYC. The pedal would operate similar to the Dwarfcraft internet pedal where you can turn the octave portion on and off while the pedal is disengaged. (the way the pron switch does). Basically you could use the Muff alone or the Muff + Octive control and be able to set it while the pedal is disengaged.

Just mucked about on my m13 running +1 and +2 octaves into my ECT. The two aren't too far apart, that much fuzz going on and the difference comes down to how much perceived volume and treble. The +1 has more perceived volume [+2 loses a bit] yet +2 has more treble going on and cuts a bit better. I should point out that I was playing against just a looped ECT'd rhythm and just kicked on the octaves over that so muff against muff might be the best test, but thats my results anyways.
I could throw a green ringer before the muff, I'm not too sure of a +2 octave analogue circuit. The green ringer will add some of its own fuzz but nothing that will hurt that muff sound. If you want a crazy/somewhat glitchy octave up going into a fuzz, thats the ticket. Cascading two ringers might be a bit too messy I feel.

Thanks for checking on that. Obviously I could buy a Muff and the Digitech Whammy, but that is a lot of money especially for a Whammy pedal that I just want one setting. Mike did a Ringer/Fuzz combo for Benecol and I watched the video to give me an idea what it would sound like. I have a MBM Fuzzface and I am trying to decide between a Muff/Ringer or maybe a ECT. What would you charge for a Rams heads Muff/Ringer Combo? Could you add a tone bypass to the Rams Head muff? I can't do the pedal immediately due to lots of family medical bills, but I just want to get a ballpark figure.

I'll have to look at a parts total and estimate how much time will be involved before I throw out a number. Over a bill, that's for sure. Take care of family first though. I love my ECT but I'm thinking of building a violet rams head muff just because it would fit my band a little nicer than the ect does. Its sick on bass, I mean SICK!

What is a violet Rams Head? So will you keep the ECT along side the Rams Head? Just let me know when you figure it out. I know I will get some kind of pedal from you at some point. I like being able to help out other Shortscalers, plus you are much closer that Mike in the UK and there is quite a waiting list cause Mike does such nice work.

I may have to send you my MM amp or get you to tell me how to fix it if replacing the power chord and tubes doesn't work. I cleaned the pots but they are both shot I believe. I will need to replace those. Can I just look at the number on the back to order a replacement? Where is a good place to order the parts? I successfully swapped out the LEDs, switches, and installed the expression knob on my DL-4, so I think I would be able to replace any parts myself. It's just if I fix everything and it still doesn't work.

Bro Deal Boost numero uno is alive and well. Its fucking PHAT. It isn't sparkly. It isn't clean. It isn't 100% transparent. It adds all the right lows, doesn't take away the good highs, and adds a smidge of grit depending on the contour knob.
I think you guys will like this one!

ha ha, yeah, and i'm still struggling to recreate some of those sounds. the guitar i was playing with got some really great tones with the dirt. i may put a lace sensor gold in a future project guitar that i will likely never complete.

i did play the musicmaster through it the other night and got some decent sondz. stratocaster sounds great with it as well. maybe i'll do another demo with a few different guitars and see what kind of variations i can get.

I found it got the most gain with the starve back to about 80% and the bias lower on the dial. I never had the volume full knock though, unity gain was a little after 9-o-clock
