Never been mad about Musicman guitars. They feel shrunken and it feels like a triumph of utilitarianism. They're maneuverable, compact, work great and therefore sort of defeats the object of the electric guitar. Leo Fender did his best design work at Fender and made his overall best guitars at G&L. Musicman feels like a blip on that record. They're by no means bad, just a bit bland.

Yh I agree, I always felt that they were a bit toy like - they feel tiny but not in a nice way like a shortscale does.

Yesterday I called Gibson and they nearly gave me a heart attack!

I called to ask them what color was the finish on my Les Paul. The CSR asked for the serial number and when I told him 9 6101. He says "your guitar is a 2006 Les Paul Standard '59 reissue with a VOS finish in Iced Tea with Nickel hardware. I said are you sure? I thought it was a 1996. So he says "wait,I have to look at another set or records" then he says "you guitar is a 1996 Les Paul Standard '59 reissue in Cherry Sunburst with Nickle hardware".

I asked how do you tell if it is a 1996 or 2006? So he starts describing what a VOS Iced Tea finish looks like compared to a gloss cherry sunburst finish. I tell him how the burst is faded on my guitar and how it look more like an Iced Tea finish than a Cherry Sunburst finish.

Then he asked "where did you buy your guitar?" I told him the store in Minnesota where I got it and he tells me "Yours must be the 1996,the 2006 was shipped to Japan". Wow,they need a better system if they are gonna reuse serial numbers.

This is the 3rd Historic Les Paul I have owned

But it is the best one. It's the only guitar I ever named. It is "The Cracked Actor"

The bookmatching on this one wasn't done very well... isn't it supposed to appear to be close to the same grain on both sides?
Really? It looks pretty close to me.
