Hey guys long time lurker first time poster.
Recently picked this guitar up for £250.
All original parts except for the addition of the Dimarzio(anyone know anything about old dimarzios?)
the paint is rather strange though never seen a finish go like that
but the neck and board are lovely and the frets are fine
thinking of stripping it down and getting a new pickguard to make it look like this http://jpegbay.com/gallery/000888697-.html

honestly, it looks really cool with the crazed paint- i'd leave it as is. it looks like nitro, that's what happens when it gets old. the wood on those musicmasters is usually hideous underneath.
all i'd do is perhaps get a hum-sized P90 or something for the bridge, unless of course the dimarzio sounds decent?

it looks ok yes but it flakes off really easy im not sure if its even original
and i was planning on having a new pickguard made as i like the single pickup
the neck pickup really sounds great
I think it looks cool as is too! But just looking at pictures isn't really enough to judge the quality of the finish. If it's flaking off easily, I would consider a refinish too.

my duo-sonic's like that, it just adds to the m@j@. people pay a fortune for thin-skins.

The most you should do is put a pickguard on it.
Or just rock out with it!!!
+1. Either return to stock MM (neck pickup)or just leave as is.
+2 just like i've done with my '67 bronco - clean it up, slap a new scratchplate on and bingo - looks shit-hot with the finish checking etc - great find!
