It's only a slight difference but it is an improvement I guess.

My Nu-Sonic is basswood (I think. It's pretty god damn featureless as far as grain pattern goes) and I've had plenty of guitars made of basswood. Nothing wrong with it at all. Some people just like to cling onto bizarre ideas about lower-price wood somehow denoting a crap-sounding instrument.

They removed a pickguard screw, those sneaky cost-saving bastards! That will most certainly have a negative effect on the sustain.

The bizarre thing is, they'll still sell a bunch of these shitheaps, even though Squier is putting out instruments that blow away fender anyday of the week. Sometimes I'm still shocked at the brand name discrimination among musicians. AN SQUIER? O NOEZ! PEOPLE WILL FINK I AM A BEGINNER! THEY ARE MADE BY FOREIGNERS EWWWW

Have to totally agree here.
I am VERY disillusioned with Fender, their prices and the fact they are insistent on messing around with old designs.
This is a massive company that are leaders in a market and this is the best they can come up with in how many years? Has there been anything new since the Cyclone and Toronado? Its shocking and hugely disappointing.
Squire quality just gets better and better at affordable prices.

Here's some quick pics using the iphone. Forgot to take pics of the '51

The mustang is extremely light, and the frets are amazing. Highly polished and very nice edges. The body feels a little small for my liking, the one thing really holding me back. I like recessed switches.

That's the problem with close-up, high-detail photos like that; it makes it so much easier to fall in love with even the ugliest of guitars. Seeing a flat, almost 2D representation of a guitar in marketing blurb always seems a little unflattering, but being able to see light being bounced off its reflective surfaces somehow always makes it more desirable.

What I'm saying is that while I thought the Mustang was ridiculous at first I really like it having seen those pictures. I even like the sparkly blue colour. I hate blue guitars.

bonar town.

not sure how i feel about recessed switches.

my whole playing style development was based around trying to rock as hard as i could without hitting the switches on my jagstang growing up.

if they weren't there in the way i would probably play like a normal human being

When you say recessed Switches, does that mean they don't stick up as much as the Stock Mustang Switches? If that is the case, maybe I should put those on my Mustang Project guitar if I can find them.

Just put a washer or two between the switch and the pickguard.

I think James or another member posted a photographic how-to on here a couple of years back.

51's are kind of ugly to me. I do not like mixed pickups setups (not the pups themselves as much as the whole pickguard ring mismatch..)

That mustand looks awesome. Love hardtail (but I don't use tremolo at all). I think it might be too much with a mustang trem on it and the larger pickups (though would have to see to know.) And I love that blue. These are hitting the stores at 799 and will likely come down a bit after that. Not sure I will go for one new (especially not with bet buy still haveing a tele custom new for 550 right now)but when these hit CL I will be on the prowl.
