That has to be the single worst thing anyone has ever posted on shortscale. Honestly, even if I broke the H-scroll with a million pictures of shitting dick nipples it wouldn't be as bad as that. How the fuck has that man sustained anything close to a career?Dave wrote:HA HA HA NO U STRATS RUELZ. Jaguar all the way for me. There's absolutely nothing appealing about Mustangs to me. The only person that ever piqued my interest in the Mustang/Duo Sonic is Liz Phair, as she squeezes some amazing clean sounds from them that I've still never heard anywhere else.
I don't think the Jaguar lineup is in a state of destruction because of Cobain, and I don't know how you could conclude that with any degree of reason. As a consumer, you have options. To us here in the states, for new purchases we have the AVRI, the modified-but-close-enough Classic Player (plus a CP version with humbuckers), the black and chrome HH, and the Blacktop. If you want a vintage-correct Jag, you can still buy one new.
As for the Mustang, there's a single overpriced vintage-correct option and this new guitar that doesn't even have a normal Mustang body. It's a real bummer.
I still don't know what any of this has to do with Cobain.
I'm pretty sure you're just baiting or trolling here, but I'll bite.honeyiscool wrote:But [Cobain] might single-handedly be responsible for the destruction of the Jaguar lineup. Just look at it now.

I think his point was that all the new Jaguars coming out lately have been with humbuckers, like teh Kurtz. Beside the ÇP, all the others are just humbuckers.

Yeah, but that's not unique to the Jaguar line; it seems to be something Fender are doing to a lot of their guitars. To blame it on Cobain is downright silly, as the man has been dead for seventeen years.taylornutt wrote:I think his point was that all the new Jaguars coming out lately have been with humbuckers, like teh Kurtz. I really don't see the big problem with Fender going nuts and expanding and offering modified versions of their classics. It's not as if they are a bunch of insane revisionists that have discontinued the vintage-correct versions of their instruments and denied their existence.
SHORTSCALE.ORG: We hate Fender if they stagnate, but we fucking hate them when they innovate.
Having said that, I don't care for most of their recent offerings -- but I am comforted by the fact that they exist.

Hey, I like Kurt. I also loooove Liz. I went to see her do the Exile in Guyvile tour a couple years back and I was such a fanboy it was ridiculous. She was playing acoustic, though, she brought out the Duo a couple of times, I think.
Anyway, I was just pointing out that to the people who blame Kurt for being associated with the Mustang, I think he's done more permanent "damage" to the Jaguar than the Mustang because the Mustang is pretty vintage correct as far as I care. And honestly, given how cheap these can be in resale, I think it's quite easy to find an affordable '65 RI, more so than it is to find an affordable '66 Jag or something like that.
I actually thought the HH Jag was a great idea, by the way. The first two models had me very excited. I love the Japanese one. I just don't like how it's become an excuse to simplify the Jag and reduce the chrome when there's a Jagmaster already.

^ Word.
I think my next Mustang will probably be fitted with Lace Dually pickups. I'll figure out some fun way of using the toggles to turn the individual coils on and off, maybe a third three-way switch or a toggle somewhere.
I might dislike Strats but sometimes I want to sound like Roxette's "The Look."

I know, but seriously. I do not understand this stuff. Is it a big joke that I'm not quite in on? I can listen to Paul Gilbert, for instance, and think "Wow, that's impressive. Not my thing, but it's alright". It's virtuoso stuff, but it's also musical. Then there's Yngwie or Jaco Pastorius and I can't help thinking that maybe they're tone-deaf mental patients who nobody has had the heart to go up to and say "Mate, seriously, just put it down, it sounds like ass." It doesn't even sound like these guys can fucking play.Dave wrote:I AM LEGENDekwatts wrote:That has to be the single worst thing anyone has ever posted on shortscale.
"Ooooh, I can do microtonal bends on my scalloped fretboard!" WHY THE FUCK WOULD THAT BE AT ALL USEFUL IN WESTERN ROCK MUSIC. WHAT THE FUCK.

Dewd I was being hipsta ironic jokey when I posted it - I am ironic trollllllll.... I actually enjoy this kind of stuff for all it's overblown pomposity - or rather i should say that the world would be marginally less fun without the existence of that video and fat Yngwie. I can't hate on it because it appeals to my twisted sense of humour.ekwatts wrote:I know, but seriously. I do not understand this stuff. Is it a big joke that I'm not quite in on? Like you and PG, in some instances I really do respect the skill, in far less instances I enjoy the resulting music. For example I really like Herman Li's widdly widdly because its usually melodic and sounds like computer games and I can't help it. Yngwie there is enjoyable in the same way fat Elvis was enjoyable - sure not cool - but there's entertainment to be found there in other ways.

Jaco Pastorius was actually amazing, though, and original. Not just ANOTHER mindless shredder like Yngwie who looks embarrasingly burnt out in that video. Don't lump them together.
I never appreciated bass players at all until I was asked to fill for someone in a band. With a massive bass bin behind you, the touch sensitivity, control and timbre of the guitar is a massive challenge involving real unearthly skill (for decent bassists at least). Amazingly satisfying when you start to hit nice notes though.

Playing bass live feels a lot more powerful than a guitar IMHO, this coming from a guitar player.
