NGD: Alvarez Yairi DYM-96 (PIC HEAVY)

Post by Yarko »

Right, I ordered one of these Yairi Masterworks guitars about a week ago for $1,100 but with shipping it turned out to be around $1,360. It came in the mail today and I though it appropriate to share with the rest of you. This guitar sounds fantastic. Quite a stunning change from my Art & Lutherie Wild Cherry. This guitar is responsive and projects ridiculously well. The DYM-96 has a "distressed" top which means you can feel the grain with your fingers quite easily. Interesting, weathered look. The neck is feels good, and everything is solid overall, easily more craftsmanship put into a guitar than any I've seen prior. This one has an IBeam pickup installed but I haven't had the chance to try it out plugged in.

I asked about Yairis a few weeks back with no replies and decided to take the plunge and buy one for myself. So instead of creating a new thread on the same topic, I just overhauled the old thread. I just this Yairi today and my Twin is at my band's main practice space so I won't have a chance to try it out for a few more days.

It's something for school, nothing legit yet but I'm hoping it gets rolling. We have an amazing saxophone player that we snagged from some jazz clubs here in town and everyone else is from my circle of friends.

nice! Looks really cool.

I have a K.Yairi G1F which is made by the same guys, it's just their own brand name I think instead of being part of Alvarez. Something like that anyway. It's amazing.

Edit:
ah yeah, found this "Yairi is now the name of the top line of Alvarez guitars. Alvarez Yairi guitars are hand-made in the same factory as K. (Kazuo) Yairi guitars and are only sold under the Alvarez name in the United States."

:) cool.

I love Alvarez acoustics so much. The distressed top reminds me of Monte Montgomery's guitar.

I've experienced the cheap $200 alverez guitars and they are easily some of the best values around, i can't imagine what the higher end models are like.

I will post some clips from practice, if we end up recording anything.
