One pickup RAWK machines

Post by damienblair17 »

Bored at work. So, fellow shortscalers! I'd like some ideas for awesome one pickup guitars suited for garage rock, punk, anything loud and gainy.

PROCEED.

EDIT: BTW, I work at a hardware store in paint. yay for computer at the desk.

Fender Esquire GT. Single Seymour Duncan Invader, no tone knob, set-neck. I have one in red. It's loud and gainy.

This one isn't mine... but it's easier to find a photo on an internet than to take a photo of mine.

Esquire with 3-barrel bridge and Seymour Duncan Li'l '59. You'll get the decently fat and meaty chunk of a standard humbucker with just enough of the Tele bridge's edge tone, yet none of the useless pseudo-clean clang of an overdone high-gain humbucker when you need to back things off a bit.

I needed a single coil bridge at the time, but the drive tones in the old Cindicaster Mk.I's bridge position were great for everything heavy. St. Jimmy The ss.org old timers will remember the thing:

The Lizards 'n' Cream stage.

This one you'd have to make yourself but would be perfect IMO:

For a real guitar I gotta say:

I'm thinking a bridge humbucker or rail pickup, split-able, with a single volume knob that handles the split. Or maybe one of those "kill button" volume knobs on those Epiphone GTs or whatever.

I have a tom delonge strat which is essentially the same thing. I love it. I really like those esquires, and I still kick myself for not picking up a blue one when MF had them on clearance for like $250!

Most of these one pickup guitars have the pickup in the wrong spot.

Fender came out with the Esquire GT when Tom bailed for Gibson. I bought mine for $200 at GC on clearance. It the guitar I play the least, but it is fun. I figure if I have kids who have longer fingers than I do, it will make a great first guitar for them.

YES!

Most reviews and descriptions say it's mellow, but stick a few fuzzes behind it, stand directly in front of the amp and fight not to drown in the rocking feedback.

Once again...

I wonder if this is still kicking around at RobOg's place? I PM'd him awhile ago to see if he still had it and was interested in selling it back to me.

Love that guitar. That, and the Jazzblaster type thing Fran had are my two favourites of the guitars made from bodies that Rob was selling here.
