Funny CV Duo Sonic Questions

Post by drew199321 »

K so i am brand new to the site (and the entire Shortscale Community) and i have a few questions about my recently inherited CV Duo;
1. I am in a glam metal band. The guitar already has a Carvin Hot Rails in the Middle/Bridge (BTW Which one is it?) Position, and a Fender lace sensor blue in the Neck position. Is there anything ( Aesthetically or soundwise ) I can do to it to make it more metal-ish?(BESIDES SELLING IT!!) it has stock everything except the selector switch and the pickups.
2. I have a nasty neck pocket crack that goes from the neck to the underside of the body. I've been watching it for about 4 months now and it hasn't spread, but I'm naturally paranoid. Should I worry?

Well, first of all, welcome. Your glam-metal band sounds about the coolest glam-metal band ever, purely on the fact that you're using a Duo Sonic.
1. The rail pickup sounds pretty hot, so I'd hold on to that for the time being. What I would suggest is getting a Red Lace sensor for the bridge and swapping the rail to the neck. Moar hotness--moar meatalz. Changing the pots might be a good idea.
2. Hard to say without seeing the crack. Show me your crack. Yeeeess. The crack. Erm.. seriously if it's only on the surface I personally wouldn't care.

I wouldn't use a bridge Red Sensor for metal. I have mixed feelings about the Red Sensor. I think for certain uses, it is the greatest pickup in the world--I, for one, use it for shortscale bass and I want no other pickup there. But general purpose it is not and I'm not sure it's rude enough for metal, and it's not really that high-output and the Rails is probably hotter. Now, the Blue Sensor is a fantastic, fantastic pickup, very meaty, smooth, and versatile, so keep that.

In fact, I'm not sure how you can improve the Duo beyond what you've done.

Metallic pickguards do help with quieting noise, but even with a replacement pickguard, $5 of copper tape should give you enough shielding to work with.

If a single Red Lace Sensor doesn't do the trick, then DOUBLE does. Unless ypu want to go the humbucking route, which is kinda weak. Just because you have to rout the pickguard which is aluminium in your case. Do not suggest replacing the guard unless you can get one for cheepz, because in my neck o' the woodz that would mean suicide. Granted I'm drunk right now, but what would ss.prg be without drunkscaling?

Oh, and using anything other than Red Lace sensor (in the lace sensor line) means you like teh white man bl00z, which makes you a loser by default.
OK, I'm trollling, since I'm still drunk as a skunk. But still, using anything other than the HOTTEST option available equals pussy and weakling and my Viking blood will not stand for that.

So be prepared for DRUNKEN COMMIE-VIKING ATTACK if you do not do as I tell you to.

DEW IT YOU WONT.

As for the pickguard, just print a big decal with this on it:

then stick it on the pickguard and trim to shape (you can put any decal pattern that is galm metal you want on). Problem solved.

Then stick another rail pup in the neck hole. GFS makes lil killers that are cheap.

I wouldn't worry about pickups at all. But thats because I get my distortion from FX pedals usually.
I also wouldnt worry about the neck pocket crack, because if it does go to shit, you can sell the leftover bits and buy a whole new Duosonic without breaking the bank.

Haha, but I don't get it. That Red barely even sounds like a single coil anymore.
