Very cool, but can you take the bridge cover off? Not being able to mute the strings with your hand would be a massive hinderance.

that's the nature of the beast. it's a horse-shoe style pickup; the strings go through the magnetic field and the magnet itself.

Maybe,I don't know what these are really worth. The seller just through out a price because the the forum say he has to. I think he is just fishing.

There is a combo 800 on ebay for $6000 but that one had been refinished and has some replacement parts.

westtexasred, are you a member of the RRF? If so, what's your member name?

Compared to yer average '71 Strat, these are not "overpriced". They may not be to everyone's taste, but remember how you couldn't give away left-handed Jags in the '70s and early '80s?

One of the reasons Rickenbacker switched to "toaster" pickups was because of the physical limitations of the horseshoes. However quirky, they had a unique, crystal-clear tone and were quite strong. To a Rick collector (maybe player, too), these are one of the "holy Grails".
