best way to spilt a signal?

erm dont even know if this is 100% possible or whether its a good idea BUT

i would like to look at splitting my guitar signal between two amps does anybody know a nice easy, cheap way of doing it.

my signal chain is

fender tele - boss tu2 - behringer nr300 - boss compressor - tubescreamer - boss sd1 - mxr micro amp - eh big muff - small stone nano - boss dd3 - ehx pulsar - danelectro reel echo

i want to split it directly AFTER the micro amp BUT want it to continue through the chain

SO one amp would be gtr, compressor, ts9 and sd1. the other amp would be THE WHOLE CHAIN (including the first section - this is the key factor)

basically the first half is effectively my "dry signal" with the rest of the effects being used on top of this sound, i want both amps to be pumping out the dry sound out all the time with effects coming through amp 2 only when in use

probably a stupid idea but just wondered whether its even possible

Sorry Ben I'd need a picture to really get what you mean. However you probably want a buffer to split the signal. Mike could make you one I'm sure.

I think he's saying he wants both amps to be on at all times, but the second half of the effect chain only to affect one amp, so the chain goes:

Guitar -> Pedals -> Micro Amp -> More Pedals -> Amp
...............................................-> Other Amp

But rather than switching between the two chains, both are in use at all times. Doesn't Stewart use a setup similar to this?

i'm guessing something like this.

Guitar>Tuner>NR300>Compressor>TS>SD1>micro amp>A/B/YBox (Split Point)>AMP1
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------>Bypass Looper (with the rest of the effects in)>AMP2

so he can run the either or both amps with the first line of pedals and use a bypass looper on the second side(optional) to switch them in or out with one stomp.

use an A/B/Y box but stick it after the pedals you want to send through both amps. it's not 100% clear what you're after but if you want two dry amps with the additional option of switching in the rest of the effects on amp 2, get a switchable bypass loop with the rest of the effects in it, then they can all be brought in with one click. mike makes them, he did one for thom a while ago.

EXACTLY! the idea is to have the clarity of my "dry" signal as well as the dirtier/effected signal

mike would your aby box enable me to do this? if so consider it sold (when funds allow!!! haha) the crucial thing is to have both amps on ALL the time with amp 1 taking the first half ONLY and amp 2 taking ALL THE CHAIN

Put the splitter after the first half of the chain. Output 1 goes to amp 1, output 2 goes to the rest of your chain then into amp 2. Both amps should be on by default, but you can isolate them if you choose.

Yeah, sounds like it would do the job - any line splitter would - like the Boss one etc etc.

I've been interested in doing something like this before, but I always thought an ABY box would allow me to switch between two different chains rather than allowing two chains to run simultaneously. Which is it? Or can they do both?

An A/B allows you to choose between one or the other, an A/B/Y allows you to combine them as well.

This is an easy build and I use one all the time. I have one with 4 outputs. I keep my board plugged into all of my amps and I just turn on the one I want to use.
