Lol, I already damaged the headstock. I gave it a light sanding this morning to take off the gloss and didn't realize there was an airbubble under one part of the sticker and ripped a little half a pinky nail size hole in it.

Smudged some green paint on it and called it a day. Perfection is in the imperfections. ;)

+1

That's bob-on that Ends!...love the mish mash of Jag/Jazz parts, and youve done a fab job on the colour!...It's like a Kryptonite-fueled stage weapon now!!!

Any joy with another guard, or can u resurrect the old one? I'd try n work around it...

I cut my own guard for my Jagmaster using a scrollsaw, and for the control plate an angle grinder, and i filed the ends after to shape it..really chuffed with the result!!

The fixed guard is on it's way back to me. The issue arose from Allparts licensed upper plate being significantly smaller than the actual fender plate.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle!

The lesson here, DO NOT LET ME EVER DO ANOTHER PROJECT!

I fuck up everthing I touch, I must have stripped 25 screws in the process of getting it this far. One of which I had to scrape up one of the pickup covers something awful to get out.

All of the screws holding the trem in, yep... pretty much stripped in place. Screw holding the bottom straplock on... stripped in place. There are three star shaped indentations around the trem where the drill slipped and punctured the finish. Yet amazingly I'm still pretty happy with the job done so far. It's starting to look pretty well worn and beat up and it's electronics aren't even wired yet.. lol.

Anyone know how far off of the pickguard Jazzmaster pickups should rise? is it about a 1/4 inch?

Fucking hell Ends that looks great, especially the spine decal positioned there. Blown away! Something very modern looking about it - Fender design department take note.

no idea.

put strings on it, set it up, see where you like the pickups at with respect to how you like your action.

killer work man, seriously

Looks awesome! Shame about the screws, and yh what serfx said, when I set my pickup height I just adjust it with the guitar plugged into my amp until I get the sound I like with no nasty overtones.

Jeez Ends! Didn't realize you'd had to cope with all those problems building it! Fair play fir sticking at it..I wouldve spat me dummy out by now!
Thats why I recon u need to call this the "BackBone Build" to match yer logo...cause it sounds like you've got a bloodygood one to cope! ;-)
As for the imperfections...meh! You're building it for you! Not anyone else, so it don't matter!
For pup height I do mine like this....

Fret the outer strings one at a time at the top fret....
Measure the distance from the top of the pick-up to the underside of the string.
and adjust so there is between 2.5mm and 3.00mm...
Simples...

But that's after setting up the trussrod if it needs it, setting action height with the bridge, intonation, and then do the height of pups..
Hope that helps!...

Something to keep in mind with the whole "screw strippin" incident. Those that hung out with me in Buffalo know that I have a very, very bad temper. Essentially, I threw a tantrum while building the guitar... one screw got stripped, then I got pissed, then another, more pissed... downward spiral. At some point I'm just angrily smashing things into place... I should have walked away, but once the Hulk is out it's hard for me to rebottle him.

Anyway... it's together. God forbid I ever need to try to get that trem off again though. It occured to me that part of the problem I'm running into is I think Jags are routed deeper than Jazzy's.... which is why I'm having a hard time getting the pickup to adjust high enough even with the foam strip. I'm going to have to shim it up a bit I think.

Did you drill pilot holes for the screws? Screws for guitars tend to be shallow, I file the tip of a Phillip screwdriver down so it makes more contact with the screw.

I like the gloss & green finish.

I always do pilot holes, the first two were legitimate mistakes, all the rest were because I was being to aggressive with them out of frustration.
