mahogany isn't even that dark, it's a reddish brown, similar to the inside of george's hat brim.

Yeah that demo changed my mind. I wasn't a fan of putting humbuckers in a mustang, but those sound great!

HAHAHA, do want too.

The Idea of a Mustang with splittable humbuckers is smart.

Definitely gave a taste of what they can do (unlike the troglodytes in the other video)! Damn there's a lot of tonal variation on tap there... might almost be worth the ridiculous prices.

The clean sound is very disappointing, which is down to the amp no doubt. Drive sounds ace. Definitely trying one of these out in Reading at the weekend. It's at the infamous "mahogany fingerboard" shop, Dawsons.

LAWL, Dawsons.

I could definitely hear great cleans in there behind the quiet/crap amp settings. The range of tones he was getting was impressive.

The string gauge on these is intolerable from factory... they seem more floppy than usual 9s on 24".

It'd sound a lot better with 11s on there.

I played the Mustang today. Didn't have time to try it plugged in, but I'm afraid to say I kind of liked it. The body was probably still a bit too small for my tastes, but felt better proportioned than a normal Mustang, which I've always thought never felt deep enough. The neck felt fantastic, and it is very difficult indeed not to fall in love with CAR and a mint pickguard. The other one in blue was there too, but the red really is beautiful.

I'm nearly completely 180'd on these...
I'm still not sold on the hacked up butt end and the twin hums look a bit crap on that pickguard BUT it does sound great. There's no denying it.

I am anxious to try these out. I was wanting to build a Jaguar HH with WRHB, but if the Mustang has the right options, I might wait for a used on down the road.

It's easy to make judgements based on internet banter, but I think playing the guitars is the ultimate test. I hope they are as nice as they look.

That's interesting; do you really think actually playing a guitar is the best way of seeing what they're like?

I noticed with both the Blacktop and Pawnshop series that we tended to be very critical(initial reactions) and once we started to actually get our hands on the guitars we mellow out and even start to purchase a few. It's an interesting process from initial announcement of the new guitars to physical demo how we process and evaluate guitars as a forum as well as individually.

I dunno, with both there was a certain "wait and see" in amongst the criticism (and my criticism of the Blacktop Jaguar still fuckin' stands, damnit!)... The MAJOR criticism with these is the price, which is a fair stumbling block, they're frickin' expensive.
