Picked it up at lunch and plugged it in for a few minutes--sounds great, everything seems up to par. The current setup is good--plays great, no dead spots or fret-outs. but compared to how my Jazzmasters are setup--the bridge seems awfully high. on my JM's i keep the bridge very close to the body/pickguard so the bridge posts come out of the thimbles maybe 1/8". the Jag is set much higher, maybe 1/4-1/2". i haven't taken it apart yet--but the neck appears to be shimmed a little more than my JM's. also, the mute doesn't come into contact with the strings--i'm sure some of this is due to the foam deteriorating, but it seems like alot is due to the bridge maybe being too high.
here's a profile pic of the bridge--does this look right? or do you guys generally keep the bridge a little lower?
Seems OK to me - maybe verging on high, but nothing I'd adjust in a hurry: this sort of trem doesn't work too well if the bridge is set too low, as it's not able to rock back an forth enough. Maybe raise the saddles and lower the bridge to compensate? Don't go berserk though.
Mine is set this high now, and the neck shimmed. I did it purely for extra string tension on the neck; with the bridge low, and because of how long the strings are from the tuning pegs to the tailpiece, there's just not enough there for me.

how does it feel when playing?
lol. you're on here now?
it feels/plays great. just is setup different than my JM's and the mute doesn't contact the strings. it's not like i plan on using the mute much, but it'd be nice to set the thing up the way our lord intended.
Also, judging from some of the polls we've had on here over the years, not that many of us actually have shortscales. We just like the look of them and everything.

I take it you two guys are from Offsetguitars?
hiwatt might be, i'm not; however, we both moderate at musicians central.
i just got my first shortscale on monday, and have been reading posts here for about two weeks now. it was really just a happy coincidence to find each other here; for me anyway.
I posted on Offset for years before I came here: the 'fuck offset' meme has played out many times over, it's embarrassing and inaccurate to roll it out in front of new posters.
Nothing, it's a boring fucking meme. Two separate forums with some shared interests - different strokes for different folks is all. Duller members here use the perceived schism as a substitute for humour.
