MG77 The "Official" Maplestang???

I think it looks great, but it just doesn't look like something I'd play.

As for the feel of fretboard woods, all my guitars have had rosewood until the white falcon. The ebony of the white falcon feels and looks fantastic. Whenevr i see rosewood now, it looks too pale.
I do think your fingers touch the fretboard when you play, maybe not with XJ frets, but mine do with smaller frets.

Really? By the time the finger touches anything other than string or fret the note is badly out of tune for me, even on vintage sized frets.

Some interesting opinions. It still seems as if no-one has actually seen a MG77 in the flesh. I'm surprised it's hard for you to get Fender JApan stuff. Is it because we're so close? Surely not. Plus the Aus dollar is amazing compared to most other currencies, now's the time to buy overseas for us.

My favourite guitar is my '78 Bronco, I like it a lot more than any '60's vintage I've ever played, that has to do with the neck and the sound, so perhaps i'd prefer a 70's RI?

I honestly don't know much about Mustangs, I'm not 100% clear on what each switch does etc, but I'd love to learn and I've taught myself everything I know about guitars and playing, so it'll just be more experimentation for me. Also, all my last few guitars have been vintage, I think I'd be excited by getting a 'brand new' guitar, I'd feel no hesitation in modding it if I ever so desire either.

As for the colour, not everyone is a fan of the 'blonde', but I already have my black/black Bronco which is enough for me, and I actually do really like the look of the pictures, I am kind of against the natural Tele Thinlne, but for some reason this appeals to me.

I am building on vintage mustang and one project mustang and I would love to find a maple neck for the vintage one to differentiate it from the project Mustang.

Unfortunately, if you find just the neck, the prices are sky high usually. If you see one floating about for a decent price, let me know. I should have some money this summer.

my fingers touch the board all the time. every time I bend or do some of the weird jazz barred stuff I can really feel the maple/rosewood. you may not touch the board much when you play but that doesn't mean everyone doesn't.

Though the closest I've ever been to a set of comparable 'Stangs was at Casa Fredo, there is something about the MG-77 in particular that fascinates me, beyond the maple neck. I like the idea of a comfy Mustang body in a heavy slab of ash, strung up heavy on a set of .012s or something, I imagine I'll automatically start pounding out FLCL tunes by The Pillows until I break something.

I guess it's the finger touching the fretboard round the string. The finger pressing the fret is indented by the string, and the rest touches the board. Quite hard to explain.

Personally I've always prefered maple fretboards, mainly its just down to the way a well played one looks - worn in and used (and dirty)

yep on ebay as I was still under 50 posts here.
Some chap bought it for his 12 year old Nirvana nut daughter to learn to play guitar on. he said he'd get it shaped properly and finished in Sonic blue.
So in future if you come across a blue Mustang with a maple fretboard then it could be....
