Honeymoon is over, had a go with I at practice through the bassman. It just doesn't work for our music and my playing. The strings pop offthe saddles even with the buzz stop, the switches are constantly hit and turned off, the trem is great but doesn't get used for our songs although I've been writing lots of wiggly bits. The pickups are weak, needs at least a boost before it hits my m13. My main qualm is tha it doesn't hit my bassman hard enough whic makes it dull and frankly boring. And it hums, a lot.
I'm not in love with the feel of the instrument either. It doesn't hug me like a jag, but I don't have to fight it like a tele. It just hangs there, it doesn't feel like I'm working with the instrument at all. I'm really banking on new pickups, proper wiring, shielding and a step up to 12s will help but I can't get over the feel of it.

So tere you have it. An incredible looking mustang that's actally uselss

Its amazing for writng, it has a lot of vibe to it. But playing it in a band situation just doest work for me. I still plan on doing an pank!

very similar to what I experienced with it. it has a lot of vibe but I just didn't really like it when I tried to play it in a louder setting.

never had an issue with the strings popping out of the saddles though. and I strum with a heavy hand and thick pick.

I play like a beast when I'm with the band. 11s, buzz stop and set up to my standards and the low e and even a strings pop.
Ill probably dump too much money into it then sell it for a loss knowing me

I still want to keep it around for a second chance, but either I needs a lot of work or I need to seriously adjust my playing.

you should not adjust ur playing to a guitar, just use one that works for u...

that's true to an extent. if you want excellent jazz sounds out of a telecaster, you can them but you have to adjust your playing. Adjusting your playing to get a guitar to work well in your hands is a lot of the fun of discovering a guitar. You should approach a tele different than a hollow body. now, if you can get the sound out and feel out of a different guitar, which happens a lot, then getting a different guitar is certainly an option.

I agree with this, but he was talking about just making the guitar fn work for him.....not getting different (ex: jazz) tonez

but it goes beyond just getting different tones. you have to approach different guitars in different ways to make them work.

differently, than this guitar

I obviously used extremes to prove my point. but you approach guitars in different ways, at least, I think you should.

Ah, my old build resurfaces! Funny to see that the amateur finish I put on it still survives -- guess everyone is just as lazy as I am.

Pink would be a pretty rad color for it. %ghey%

I think this guitar would work pretty well with humbuckers, something higher gain to offset the natural jangle of the neck/scale length.

I would have kept it around longer for myself had I not picked up an AVRI Jaguar shortly after completing it.

Keep the legacy going and pass it along to another shortscaler!

Why don't you switch out the Jag bridge for a Mustang Bridge? Might help the string popping. You could put some washers between the switches and the pickguard to lower them down, similar to how they were done on the Mustang Special. I had to adjust my attack angle when I first got my Musicmaster because I kept running into the Bronco knobs, but I eventually adjusted to it. I wouldn't change how you play, but you may have to make some small adjustments for each guitar you play. It has taken me forever to get acclimated to my Baja telecaster, but some guitars take longer to get intimate with.

AOM went to a shortscaler as I had no earthly need for it and never would lel
Mustang bridge probably won't work as the bridge posts are slightly skewed and make the strings sit on the sides of the saddles instead of the middle. 12s and a slightly lighter hand will work, pretty sure. I even have strings pop on my jaguar that has. Musang bridge and a stoptail. Hell, even les pauls will sometimes.
I have a blood blister on the cuticle of my pick finger. I think for how hard I play I'm baring up the wrong tree.
