Fender Lead III

They have a Fender Lead III at my friends store.It is the same finish as the one in the vid below but some idiot painted it black and it looked awefull. they removed the black paint but it removed some of the original finish in a few spots. Also the one they have has black pickups.

What are the necks like on these?
I was tempted to get one instead of my bullet but wasn't sure if the neck would be too similar to a strat neck (i generally don't get on with strat necks), but plumped for the bullet as they are tele necks.
Didn't the Edge use one in the early '80's?
