Unfortunate that he does so many reviews of interesting gear... because he's doing them they become unwatchable.

I guess he presents a certain perspective. This is who I imagine buys the most recent Chili Peppers records. I would not buy hash from this guy.

What.

I love Phil X. He is a very poor reviewer, I admit that. He makes every single thing he plays sound work for him and him only, but isn't that what most players end up doing anyway? The amount of enthusiasm he brings to reviews is amazing and I love the fact that he just seems to love what he's doing. He's having fun and rocking out, and sometimes he can't help himself.

I wish more people had this kind of enthusiasm.

yes he has fun and all that.

but i was referring more about... man, if you're gonna demo a guitar, KNOW some facts about it!
he has NO idea about the switching. he calls it a duo sonic junior.

i don't HATE 'em or anything. he's got a dream job and quite some talent.
maybe it's just my envy speaking...

he's fun to watch, but he's a douche. I wouldn't get a beer with him. His review is spot on in someways; Mustang switching sucks.

You mean you wish more people acted like self-conscious, approval seeking 12 year olds? He goes to far overboard, well into douchebag territory with his enthusiasm. Manufactured wackiness for wackiness' sake.

He's a skilled player, no question, and he demos some incredible gear, but it's his personality that kills the demos. He's painful to watch. I mean, he comes off like his mind is locked in it's teens or something.

I wish he'd tone down a bit so I could actually watch the demos instead of clicking them off before any actual information is passed along.

What's funny is he demos Jaguars all the time and he understands all the switches on that but can't figure out a Duo Sonic? Of course he calls the strangle switch a phase inverter switch so he doesn't completely get it. His chops are awesome, but he was a little nuttier than usual on this demo.

Didn't he say this Duo Sonic was standard scale length? I don't think he is right on that.

I think Phil x loves Floyd Rose tremolos. Just throwing that out there.

See, it might be nice to merge the two running who gives a shit threads. I hate a cluttered house.

Wasn't Fender selling the 24 Scale as standard scale on these models, while the 22 somethings were called shortscales? But you're right sure he didn't know about that detail. 24's scale has 22 frets, so I'm sure it's such one. A Duo with standard 25.5 scale would be a partscaster and that wouldn't make sense for that shop to sell.

I think his reviews are pretty good he’s enthusiastic you can tell he loves playing he seems to have a loose idea of what he’s going to do / say just and plays. and he doesn’t have one of those John Major type reviewer voices (imagine John Major voice) ‘this is a 196? and my personal highlight of this guitar is the 100% original amber switch tip’

and he totaly fucked up that chilli peppers tune...

I don't want to throw the toys out of my pram but... I like the fact these guitars are being played for everyone's interest on youtube but I'd like more detail, analysis and a better rundown of the guitar's sounds. It's great he's having a good time but half the time they all sound the same: dirty or very dirty and from what I've heard he also uses compression for the most part on all these videos.

Someone else should be doing these demos who's more interested in disseminating the actual guitar to interested people, not putting out a "look at me, bro! I'm Phil X" string of videos.

Whilst I agree with most all the criticisms here 100% the likely truth is that his particular style of video promotion appeals to a large cross section of viewers who turn into paying customers. The only analogy I can think of is a well known and respected business adviser dude who has the worst looking website in the world. He said people on his courses are always offering to do him a better website and he has to point out constantly that he originally tested and presented many different variants of the website and this format was the one that translated directly into the most cash for no reason he really understood, experiment and hard financial facts dictated it.

In some ways I'm more annoyed by the faux wayne's world-isms of that Chappers bloke who looks like someone's english dad pretending to be KER RAZY ROCK OUT YO.

But yeah I can't stick too much phil X I'm afraid.

Also i might add the 'is phil X a douche' convo has come up SO many times across the scant few forums I look at and that all means PUBLICITY. people go view the videos, get exposed to him and whomever he's working for and what they sell. Unless the publicity is wholly negative and merely polarizes opinion that is fantastic marketing news ....
