Phil X rocks a Duo Sonic...sorta

Haters gonna hate I suppose.
True, a lot of the stuff Phil plays doesn't interest me; but I can skip forward to the more interesting. He's been getting better lately as far as playing different jams, so I really can't say too much. His version of Stevie Wonder's I Wish is pretty groovy. I don't know how you guys think he's a douchebag. He's not like that 80s looking guy from the Fender videos, he's just trying not to make a boring demo. He's a musician first and a gear demo-er second. The amps are miced extremely well now and make the demos useful in discerning the types of sounds the guitars make.
Tell ya one thing though, the Evil Robot sounds like shit. Bring back the Tonemaster and AC30

personally i think Phil is prolly a coke head and that is why he is always so "in ur face with his antics"....he got caught with drugs a while back and coke does seem to bring out the worst part of people's personalities.... just a thought

Its a matter of personal tastes and that is really all. Some care for his, and some don't! because some folks don't like it doesn't mean your poitive opinion is somehow invalidated any more than if I hate a band you love. Given the entire range of people who do demo videos I enjoy others much more because I judge 'goodness' and enjoyability in such a way that means i don't especially relate to his demo work.
I find Gearmanndude and our own Mike's demos to be a combination of funny, entertaining and informative that that generally I call 'LIKE'. Phil X vids I appreciate all his verve and good honest fun seeking self but I don't relate to it and i don't get much value from his demos, nor does he make me chuckle HOWEVER I know many DO and more power to 'em. I don't actually think he is a douche, I just grew away from looking at guitars like Waynes World or Bill and Ted kinda RAWK schtick.

ok than he really is just a douche.... Rather personal things you're implying from a series of gear reviews on the internet. I might wonder what personal things I could imply from your ability to read people.
Douche is a strong word in my book, it means you're a dick, and you have a good reason to believe so. It's not a word I use lightly because if I do, then it doesn't mean anything and then you become one of those people who will call people douchebags at the drop of a hat, and nobody will trust your judgment of people.

I have many judgements of u and seem to be nice.... just as u seem to have ur own opinion and judgements on everything else in the world....which u have proven by ur time on this website... I personaly feel u are way to over sensative and need to relax, and if someone u do not even know being called a douche' bothers u then u should disconnect ur internet connection and probably open ur eyes to the real world cuz its not a nice place eitherhoneyiscool wrote:Rather personal things you're implying from a series of gear reviews on the internet. I just think that first of all, there should be more camaraderie between musicians. We are a struggling lot. nobody pays for music anymore (i.e. thinks we're worth paying for), music still costs money to make and create, and all of us have our own little struggles and we're really different and the only thing we have in common is that we, by and large, love music. Whenever I see someone who loves music (and it's generally easy to tell), I cannot easily develop a negative opinion of them. Of course, musicians can still be dicks, and many are, but for tangible reasons. What does this Phil X guy do other than love music a lot and isn't afraid to share it? As far as I can tell, he seems like a nice dude and he says he doesn't do drugs or any of that, so if enthusiasm makes douchebags out of people in 2011, well, I guess I never was that cool.

enthusiasm does not make u a douche......... its all about how people go about things......
I enjoy most of his demos cuz he is entertaining, but that does not mean I do not think he is a douche'.......I would never want to hang out with the guy.........
there are different people in the world and my opinion of them does not mean shit, the same as ur opinion does not mean shit in the big picture, so why waste your time getting worked up over it, find something more important to worry about if u want to try and make the world a more just place
pushing ur beleifs on my use of words will get u nowhere

Though I am somewhat put off by his personality, I would rather watch Fretted Americana gear demos by Phil X than about 90% of the other guys out there.
I find he makes an obvious effort to play stuff that is consistent with what the people interested in the featured instrument would want to be playing with it.
As someone else pointed out, the audio is always excellent and I think his choice in amplification and effects is always tasteful.
I mean, he's no PGS Andy but there are way worse reviewers out there, IMO.
Their effects demos aside, if PGS only focussed a bit more on vintage and consumer-level instruments and amps instead of pricey session-douche gear, they'd reign supreme on the internet gear demo kingdom.

You're expressing your opinion, and I'm expressing mine. I'm not trying to push my beliefs either. After having my fair share of Internet forum experience, I've noticed that if you write large chunks of text in good English on a message forum, people assume that you are raging and will tell you to take it easy, but I'm really not raging and rarely do. I'm wasting time at work and chewing gum and surfing the Internet like anyone might be doing.
I don't care if you see things my way but does it make me sad that people are saying things about this guy just based on some videos of him acting like a kid in a candy store in front of a camera? Yes, it does. I wish I had his job and would be just as giddy about it because screw jaded people, there are way too many of those quiet introverted people who are afraid to smile. And yeah, I understand that real life isn't that great. If anyone should know, it's me. If I've learned anything in my life, it's that reality sucks, but I'm not going to just accept that and move on, I always want to make my version of reality a little less sucky than what reality might actually be. And that's that.

I find this hard to swallow, many of ur post seem to be u pushing ur beleifs on others and trying to convert them to ur way of thinkinghoneyiscool wrote: I'm not trying to push my beliefs either..

over-sensative....... u do not even know this dude and this bothers u?.....I truely feel sorry for u cuz this means everyday life probably causes alot of bad emotions in u...as reality sucks alot of the time
I agree, its cuz the world beats them down.... I use to be one of them.... all it comes down too is quit caring what others think and be u......... Do u really think it would bother Phil that I called him a Douche'?..... hell no, the dude does not give a fuck and does him, thats awesome, but I still have the right to not like himhoneyiscool wrote: there are way too many of those quiet introverted people who are afraid to smile.
i do not quite know how to take this as I do not knwo how literal u r about skewing reality in your eyes..... either way skewing reality is not a good thing... especially when used as a coping mechanismhoneyiscool wrote: If I've learned anything in my life, it's that reality sucks, but I'm not going to just accept that and move on, I always want to make my version of reality a little less sucky than what reality might actually be.
the point is I think that Phil is a douche'....... I do not have to agree with u and I do not in most cases... so agree to disagree.. Period.

Why don't we say "Phil X portrays himself as a douche in the demos" and that's why I can't watch them normally. Hell, he COULD be a total stand up guy until ya get a camera on him and he starts acting like a douche... we don't know, all we have for data is these videos.
In the end, who cares... he's just a guy. Sure he's a musician, but really, again, who cares? Musicians are just people... if we like one another simply based on mutual appreciation of the idea of music (not even the same types of music), that kinda waters down our personal criteria of what's important in a person... and does absolutely nothing to abate the intrinsic difficulties of being involved in music production. Me liking you because you're a musician isn't going to lower your production costs, get you more gigs, make audiences and venue owners respect you or anything else... it's pretty meaningless except on a personal relationship scale.
Long and the short of it: worry about things worth worrying about (hint: this isn't one of them)

I'm not trying to push my beliefs. I seek to express my beliefs, and if it's a belief that is not often expressed, you will read it as me trying to push my beliefs, when expressing myself and being understood is far more important. I don't expect people to have a Dr. Phil moment of clarity reading my posts, I say things because I want to say them. Let's face it, you or I will rarely change our mind on an Internet forum. I've posted on a dozen different forums, probably have 50,000+ posts to my name, and I can't think of a single time anybody made me do a 180, and so I don't expect that out of anyone else. But I just want people to think about alternatives sometimes, instead of everyone agreeing on one thing and having a hive mindset about it.
Just because something bothers me doesn't mean it keeps me up at night. Modding guitars and writing songs keep me up at night, not Internet arguments. Everyday life is not that bad because things might bother me, but I smile all the time, something that you can't really show on a message board but dude, I have a pink guitar. How seriously do you think I take myself?
And no, the solution is not to quit caring about what people think about you. That's one way of dealing with life, and it's not proven to be the best. There are many other ways of dealing with life. Certain people, like me, will always be externally driven. It's an extrovert thing, we think from outside-in rather than inside-out like introverts do. To cut off our reaction to external stimuli would rob us of one of the things that drives us. The thing to do is to channel that motive into something positive.
Skewing reality is fine. That's what artists, musicians, writers do. I have a full time job and make an income, I can deal with reality. It's just that when I'm home or with friends, I'm not going to just accept that the world sucks, I'll be trying to make my own world better. It's what I do.

that's called stubbornness, dude. There have been several time where I have read this forum and changed my mind about things. First order of business, liking shell pink. Used to hate it, now, it's in my top three favorite colors. If you don't change your mind about things and you're simply here to 'express' your opinion, then you can expect this kind of reaction to every thing you post. You 'express' all of your opinions as if they are better than other peoples. Regardless of how you mean things, you're giving several people the same impression of you, I know I'm not a lone when I say you seem to really push your opinions as better, and if that happens time after time again, you need to look at how you post things and not how several people read them. I don't really care what you do, I'm not going to lose sleep about it. I also try to ignore you in general because all I know you're going to say something I don't agree with than mention your hellokitty guitars or sparkle bass.
