When Shortscales Attack

Post by DGNR8 »

Last night my daughter swung her arm around and pulled my 73 Musicmaster off the stand and it tipped onto her head. It didn't look too bad until blood started gushing out. I think the tuners hit her. We went to the ER and didn't even examine the would because we were applying pressure. I was imagining the worst, but it was just a scratch, in a very vascular area.

It's my favorite guitar, but if it were serious I might have had to pack it up. That Louisville Slugger neck must have given her quite a whack. The strings are so old they don't stick out anymore, but I keep them cropped. I have never even had one fall over before. May be time for wall hooks. For the guitar.

Later we went to dinner (and ice cream) and her tooth fell out! Luckily it was already very loose. Her first loose tooth was knocked out in a street hockey game. Some 4 y.o. high sticked her. I hope this isn't a trend.

Time to get one of these:

I have 5 of them in my guitar room and they lock the guitar in place.

I'm glad ur kid is aight.....I recommend THIS....

Love mine, its the best multi guitar stand I have ever had....and the guitars are locked in place by leather straps

(as always I apologize for the shit camera)

I do not trust the wall hangers as my basement is finished with the small thin metal studs and drywall... the metal studs are nowhere near as strong as a reg 2x4 construction

the best single guitar stand is the Hercules ones with the locking yoke.....

That guitar has been sitting in that same spot since she could walk. I have a rickety 49 Epiphone downstairs, same thing. I never thought twice about it. When it happened I was turned the other direction and happened to look over as it connected. Otherwise I would have lunged, right or wrong. By the end of the night she was only thinking about her tooth, asking about the cash!

When I was her age I needed ten stitches on the top of my head. It was the very first week that Sesame Street aired and I was going to the neighbor kid's house to watch it with him. I showed up covered in blood. I wasn't asked back either. I am sure they probably think of me as the kid who DIED. I was always getting injured. Must be the ADD gene.

I don't really like wall hangers either, but I have several in the basement that work pretty well. I like the idea of securing it.

Yes, I have one of these as well. The leather snaps are excellent.

I keep my guitars in their cases? All my acoustics have planet waves humidipacs and I think I'm going to get one for my Archtop as I worked out a way of getting it to fit in the case easily as some of it can be slotted into the F-hole and the rest draped over the guitar.

Keep those acoustics humidified ;)!

I have a humidifier for the winter and a de-humidifier for the summer in my basement.... I try to keep my basement around 55% humidity yr round

I knocked my daughter's guitar off the stand the other day. I've never had an issue with a wall hanger in 10 years. I use em big cork screw looking plastic anchors to mount em to sheetrock. If those don't work, I use toggle bolts.
