Mustang hardshell case

Post by Skypilot »

Hi everyone!
New to the board but I have a feeling I'll like it here.
I'll soon be the happy owner of a 65 RI Mustang and I'm wondering what case it will fit in.
Would a generic Stat / Tele rectangular case work?

I have two mustangs, one came with an unbranded case that fits it perfectly, lucky!

The other one, I contacted Hiscox to see if they offered anything, as I have a number of their cases and am very happy with them. The best they could for me was a jaguar case, with extra cushioning to accomodate for the smaller body. It works perfectly well, and keeps it from moving. For national gigs, i.e van/ car journey, the case is adequate, however if I was to go abroad with it, I would look into a built-for-purpose case.

Hope this helps, and welcome!

I just picked up this case at the guitar show because it fits mustang style guitars pretty well. I added one piece of foam to keep it from sliding but it works pretty well. (see it near the upper horn of my Musicmaster) I got it for $50, but they normally run a little higher than that.

Thanks for the quick answers!
The thing is, I'm already ruining myself buying the guitar (well, almost) and I can't afford an expensive case.
I was looking at the cheap thomann ones which I believe are still better than a gigbag but I guess I'll have to shop around guitar in hand and try to find one that fits in one of the local shops.

I hear ya. My Jag spent a few months in a gig bag until I could afford a hardshell for it. Good luck.

I too am looking for a case for my Mustang and the Fetish guys told me that their JT cases will fit:

Price looks good, haven't pulled the trigger yet, so can't speak on quality.

The last Mustang I had fit into a generic tele/strat case just fine.

It wasn't the most snug thing in the world but it worked well.

in my experience they fit really snug. mustangs are relatively the same size as a strat, only maybe 1/4 or 1/2 inch longer. so the headstock pushes into the padding at the top of the case a little bit, otherwise fits perfect.

Went to the website, LOVE that Day of the Dead case. A few questions if you don't mind.
Is the design on one side or both?
How is it on the case - fabric or some kind of print?
Do you think it will be durable?

The design is on one side and it is painted on some how. Seems durable to me, though I was disappointed the tuner in the case didn't work.

The guitar arrived today!
Still getting used to it and setting it up to my liking but so far I love it.
I went ahead and ordered the generic black thomann strat/sg case to go with it figuring that if it doesn't fit I can sell it to one of my friends who owns a strat.
Well, the case is really cheaply made but it fits. it's a little larger and wider than the guitar so i'll have to stick a couple of blocks of foam in it but for 38 euros it's a bargain and still better than a gig bag.
Thanks everyone for your help!

i hate generic cases because they never really ever fit perfect.....and you dont want to put extra stress on the neck...
