9v versus 18v...

Thinking about trying 18v into my OCD...

Going to pick up a Diago (convertor) adaptor. Been on the look out... they're usually a nightmare to find but think I've just found somewhere that may stock it.

Very subtle differences... what do you think ??

I enjoyed the OCD and DLS on 12v and 18v, not mind blowing, just a tad different flavour than at 9v.

Would you be able to tell in your bedroom or if you made A/B clips? Maybe

Would you be able to tell on stage or playing in a rehearsal space with a full band? Nope.

Before you buy I may have a spare I can sell for a discount. PM'd. However if you'd prefer a new one just email the guy at Diago and he'll probably make you one if you're having trouble finding one.

Wonâ€™t that fuck up the pedal after prolonged use, doubling the recommended voltage of summit can't be good...

From the Fulltone website:

Q: Is it ok to run the OCD higher than 9 volts?

A: Yes, you can run 9volts DC, 12volts DC, up to 18 volts DC, just make sure that the Center Pin of the adapter is "Negative." BTW, you can't hurt the OCD by using the wrong adapter because it has special protective circuitry...if you use the wrong adapter it just won't work or it will hum, but you can't hurt it.

It'll be fine as long as it's below the rated voltage of the components. Everything should really be fine except cheapo electrolytic capacitors (rated at 16V) or some specialised ICs (eg PT2399). Simple stuff like boosts and fuzzes outta be okay.

It's meant to add further headroom from what I understand.

Listening to the demo the perceived differences at 18v: Slight increase in treble / slightly clearer / less mud, which I'm sure you could EQ in.... but it is marginal.

I did borrow an 18v adaptor from work about a year expecting more than I did... after a break in 20 secs changing the plugs over I couldn't really hear much difference.

Willing to give it another try though... it can only do good from the minute differences I hear. I will report back, maybe do a sound clip too for anyone who's interested.
