How much does he want for it? Will he get less because it's a plaintop?

I hope not, as it looks far cooler than the flamed ones.

I love it when these come up for sale now and then. There's only 800 something 59s so its cool when they change hands. One could easily sell one for at least $500,000

Thanks what is interesting is this guys Les Paul has the same serial number (9 0381) as that of a 1959 Les Paul that is(or was) in the collection of Japanese collector Kunio Kishida the owner of Nancy Guitars in Nagoya Japan (Link)

It is also also in the Serial Burst Log (Link) so it is a real mystery that has both Les Paul forums abuzz as too whether this is for real or a hoax.

I asked the the guy who says he owns this guitar to post "Proof Of Life" photos: a picture of the guitar with his screen name on a slip of paper and a copy of todays newspaper and He posted these

This is the guitar in Kunio's Collection

This is the guitar the guy got from his dad.

I'm no Columbo but that looks like a pretty close match

They look like they could be the same guitar to me. Need higher quality photos from the japanese collector though.

If you look at the edge of the guitar below the lowest control knob, at the darker outer ring on the burst, there is a dark patch in the colour. An un even bit..:

It seems it could be there on this too below the control knob on the edge of the guitar:

it's hard to tell from the pictures but i don't think it's the same guitar. the horizontal mark below the tailpliece on the left hand side is clearly visible in all the photos except the one belonging to the japanese chap. could be wrong though, the photo's el jpeg crapola after all.

exactly. that, and the little burl under the knobs does not look the same either. and I think the seam in the top is more clearly visible on the japanese collector's guitar. on this guitar you can barely even make out the seam. I imagine quite a lot of the '59 les pauls look roughly similar but there are no visual factors here that jump out and identify these as exactly the same guitars, actually, more so the contrary.

But they do carry one important similarity: The same serial number!

They don't look the same to me at all, and I think having the same serial number counts as a strike against this dude's story.
