epiphone get it right (beware the BIG pic)

I've noticed a proportionate "step-down" in Epis quality as Squier have been stepping up, it's a shame.

Yeah but those Epiphones are poly. Poly sucks.laterallateral wrote:Man, I wil file some dodgy-ass fret ends and replace some cac pickups, if it means I can have a Pelham SG with vibrola for under 5 bills.
This is fucking WIN. Epiphone WIN.
I've been seeing Gibson SG specials for around €300 used. Buy vibrola, repaint pellham blue...

Goodness that sounds simple. Buy guitar and vibrola, find someone to properly strip and refinish a guitar in pelham blue nitro? I'm guessing this won't be cheap.
And while we're on the subject of finishes that suck, I take it that the only Epiphones you would approve of are the MIJ Elitist models?
Our MIC Emily G-310 has a bolt-on neck, poly finish, AND it's made of plywood (nothing Gibson SG about that). It also kicks ass in the tone and playability, albeit in a very different way compared to my (nitrocellulose lacquer-finished) Yamaha SG1000. I love the nitro finish on my Ric, Moollon, and Yamaha guitars, but I'd have a hard time saying that the polyurethane finish on my beloved CIJ Fenders makes them downright sucky.
Just sayin'.

I personally couldn't give two shits what finish type my guitars come in.
As far as I'm concerned the only difference between the two is how they decay and how the neck feels (which in the case of poly, certainly isn't bad.)
That said, you're completely entitled to your opinion but for me, all the cash and effort I'd have to put into converting a proper gibby to that epiphone's spec totally brings me back to why I don't already have one of these already and consequently, why I'm kinda excited about that epiphone.

feels like plastic, probably because it is. Deadens the vibtration. Looks like ass. Poly sucks.laterallateral wrote:I personally couldn't give two shits what finish type my guitars come in.

Gneh, well I play guitars that are MADE out of plastic, so polyurethane coatings should be the least of my worries.pumpkin wrote:feels like plastic, probably because it is. Deadens the vibtration. Looks like ass. Poly sucks.

Identical enough.Doog wrote:Have you ever played two identical guitars, one finished in poly, the other in nitro, bringing you to this conclusion?pumpkin wrote:feels like plastic, probably because it is. Deadens the vibtration. Looks like ass. Poly sucks.
This universal accepted as fact. It just doesn't matter to some people, but it matters to me.
It's almost universally accepted as fact in the flat earth society that the sun is actually a giant spotlight that shines on various parts of the pancake-shaped earth at different points in the day. They are completely at odds with the less-influential group that believes the solar system functions similarly to accepted physics, through orbits and such, it's just that the earth is flat and is orbited by a spherical sun. Which one is right? It's impossible to really say until somebody scientifically proves it but there are so many variables that even a fairly accurate conclusion could still be thrown in doubt by external factors.
Such as being wrong.

I'm still suspicious of all of these. Epiphone's QC is as bad as Gibson's. I wouldn't expect Squier or even Rondo build quality out of these instruments. Every Epi I've ever touched has been poorly crafted turd.

DUDE. WHAT.
My thoughts exactly.. I'm seeing a lot of good Epis out there ( especially the archtops) . Squier to me is bland at the moment (with the exception of the new offsets but they sure could of used a better tort ).
I've never considered an Epi till recently.. With exception of a Nick Valensi P-94... I love them fooking thangz...
