Planning phase.

Right now i have a Boss multi-effect and it does its job very well. But there area few effects I use over and over, so I'd like to pick up some independents: Looking for feedback on the idea of

Guitar--> Moogerfooger Phaser-->Cathedral Reverb--> EHX memoryman -->Spectacular Aenima-->grumble bee pedal(whenver Haze has a change to finish it) --> Epi Valve Jr.

Thoughts?

Personally I'd put reverb and delay after gain. Fuzz after reverb is gonna sound horrible (although you might want it to sound horrible). Delay is just personal preference.

Yeah, the 'standard' order would be

Guitar > Moogerfooger > Grumble Bee > Spectacular Aenima > Memoryman > Cathedral verb > amp

Although some peeps prefer their phasers after distortion; but, like Freddy says, it's all down what sounds best to your ears and tastes.

East Bay Ray from the Dead Kennedys had delay before distortion and got some amazing sounds.

Moogerfooger + Cathedral + Memory Man + Aenima = a fair chunk of cash to outlay in one go, although they'll proabably sound great.

Personally I would order them thus:

Guitar - Grumble Bee - Spectacular Aenima (or before the Grumble Bee if it prefers being right after the guitar) - Moogerfooger - Memoryman - Cathedral - Amp

That's my "go-to" for talking about "non-standard" FX chain orders, to the point where Benecol rips on me about it- I thought you were making a sly reference to it there..

Talking about non-standard pedal orders, I didn't realise it was standard to put a phaser before distortion. I always put modulation effects after.

Yeah I had noticed that Doog's effects knowledge was being used against him, with almost the same wording. BOY'D.

I think phase sounds much better after gain but that's probably to do with my own pedals.

It's all about how much swoooooooosh you want, it's a bit more filtery and CHEWY when put before your distortion source.

Why have loads of expensive effects into a cheap amp? I'd say upgrade your amp, then worry about other stuff.

I agree with getting rid of the Multi efx board but I think I would upgrade that Valve Jr to a Tiny Terror before I did anything

I think I have decent amps. My Musicmaster Bass amp needs to be repaired, and my JCM 900 is a little loud for every day playing.

I like how the Valve Jr. sounds at any rate.

As for all the advice on pedal order, I definitely appreciate it. I'm used to Guitar --> Multipedal --> Amp.

I was starting to fall out of love with my Great Destroyer... Until I popped it in front of my reverb, at the very end of my chain.
