New Squier Mustang Bass

Looks cool. I wonder what the MSRP will be in the USA. At the current exchange rates, and based on the UK price of the one in the link, it would be about $430. Not sure if I'd want one over the Jaguar short scale. It's pretty fun, and with the P/J pickups, it's more versatile than a Mustang bass. Still, I think it's cool that Squier is releasing a Mustang Bass, and I'd like to try one sometime.

The way it usually goes is a straight dollars to pounds conversion. Sucks for us in the UK, great for you guys in the US.

This is so damn cool! I would so love to get a maple necked Mustang Bass to add to my collection.

Considering VMs tend to go about $275-300, I'd expect it'd be in that price range.

The only thing that discourages me is that I find stock Mustang Bass pickups to be not so great, and my Aero (which is a fantastic pickup) cost me $125.

Considering the Bronco is modeled after the Mustang, I don't see what your issue could be...

My issue is that the Bronco bass is a shoddy bass, and this isn't too far removed from that. It is nice that it has the same Duncan Designed pickup as the MIJ Mustang Basses however.
If they sound nice and dont feel like plastic then shalom to whomever wants to spend their money on one.

Broncos are not shoddy. How do you figure that?

Anyway, why would it feel like plastic? It seems to have a satin poly neck, which half the people seem to think feel "unfinished" more so than plasticky.

Regardless, this isn't a Bronco Bass neck. The nut width is smaller at 1.5", and the tuners are full sized, so it's not like they'll be slapping Bronco Bass necks on a Mustang body, although honestly, would that be such a bad thing? Bronco Basses have fantastic necks.

I'm sure the price will drop a bit. It's the first shop to advertise. There will be a little pricing war and it'll be set from there.

With Fender / Squier now... you have to advertise at a set amount and not drop below that to keep all parties happy. That keeps margins higher but also allows discounts to be made. SO ask for that free gigbag, etc....

Gotcha. I misunderstood the point you were trying to put across.

I do see what you mean, but, I don't find the Bronco that bad a bass. I mean, yeah, it's a cheap instrument, but, expected quality for the price point aside, I've enjoyed playing the handful that I've picked up (and I am a bass player, not a guitar player playing bass... just tossing that out there for my perspective, not cred). As I mentioned, I've been considering picking one up for an inexpensive shortscale bass, and modding it out a bit to be more in line with a Mustang. If these aren't too expensive, they should be a good deal.

The CV line is fantastic, and I'm seeing slag for the VM line here. Personally, again for the price, I haven't seen too much fault in the VM basses, though my experience is the fretted and fretless Jazz and testing out the first run Jaguar Basses. They've been fairly well constructed, with a decent feel, with at least passable pickups. I certainly wouldn't slag this one until testing it, based simply on being VM rather than CV.

Honestly, I've enjoyed playing Broncos more than the late 70s Musicmaster Bass I've played...

Don't know where you are looking but bronco bass has the same nut width. I would guess it's the same neck which is a bit of a shame. I do like my bronco neck but it means the only major differences are the pickup and the the bridge, which although good changes, probably aren't enough to justify me buying it. Damn.

Hmm, I've measured the nut width of my Mustang Bass and Bronco Bass and found that the Bronco neck was wider. Maybe it was just within tolerances.

Someone here nailed it. A guitar player looking for a body shape and a scale length will find this as cheap thrills. Whereas a bass player might find the body uncomfortable, the construction and wood materials not ideal and lacking versatility in elecetronics. Haters gonna hate.
