Orange Bass Amps?

Post by damienblair17 »

Hey Guys. I'm looking to downsize my bass practice amp. I've got a Peavey Max112 that's a little too big. I was thinking about the Orange Crush Pix25. Can anyone tell me if it's any better or worse then what I've got? I'm not super thrilled with the Peavey's sound right now. I like the idea of the Orange because it's a bit smaller, so easier to move, and I'm hoping it has a better sound.

I don't put much faith into small bass amps.

I used to have a Peavey practice bass amp (possibly the one you're talking about, I don't remember the model name for certain) that somebody left at my house in high school, and never showed up to get it back, and they actually moved before getting it back. It sounded like Garbage. I traded it to a music go round towards an acoustic guitar. My girlfriend got me the Orange BX25 for christmas last year and I LOVE IT! It has by far, the best tone for an amp it's size that I've ever heard! It's really small, so it doesn't get in the way in the apartment. Also it sounds pretty damn good at all volumes. When I'm trying to play quietly by myself it still sounds good at a low volume, sounds great when cranked a bit more to play along to the stereo, and when I crank it it's loud enough to piss off the neighbors despite it's small size! Seriously get one! Before she got me the orange I was using a crappy Fender Frontman 15B that the singer in my last band gave me for apartment playing and it sounded like garbage. The E string was barely audible, and it made the speaker fart out even at a really low volume! So I was super stoked to get the Orange from my girlfriend for christmas! It was a total surprise too, she knew I loved Orange Amps and she saw it when she came with me when I was making a payment on my rickenbacker. She went back the next day and bought it for me!

I use a Vox T25 for my bass. Sounds very nice indeed. Sadly discontinued in 2002, which is a bit of a shame. Not the loudest amp in the world but great for practice/pub gigs. Might be able to pick up a second hand one for not much cash, they were only £125 new.
