MIM Duo Sonic w/ Aluminum Control Plate

Post by doober314 »

Bought a Duo Sonic off eBay a few months ago and the pickguard was cracked (it was also superglued to the body!). So... this is what happened to it.

Here's how I got it:

Sent it out to get a new pickguard and an aluminum control plate done:

So a couple of new knobs and pickup covers later, here's how it turned out:

Cost a little more than a new pickguard would, so why not?

Thanks for the comments everybody.

This is my cheapo method of getting a chrome control plate and that Duo Sonic II look. Had the hardest time finding somebody to do the metal work for me, but luckily somebody from another forum took a whack at it and it turned out pretttttty good.

Like.
I'm not a big fan of Duos (live Duo IIs, though), but this looks pretty nice. Good choice.

Won't be polishing it any time soon, but somebody told me that you can really get aluminum to shine like chrome.
